Born Sidney Alton Colby on May 29, 1921 in Syracuse, New York, he moved to the Daytona Beach area as a small child. Colby attended N. Ridgewood Elementary School and graduated from Mainland High School in 1939. As a small boy during the depression he sold newspapers on Beach St. and remembered fondly receiving a "shiny dime" from John D. Rockefeller as a tip. Mr. Sinclair served during WWII and achieved the rank of Army Master Staff Sergeant. After the war he served on escort duty to bring home the soldiers who lost their lives in battle. He officiated over many military funerals. He attended Stetson University, University of Florida and University of Sheffield in Sheffield, England. During the 50's and 60's Mr. Sinclair was an active member of the Daytona Playhouse, winning the best actor award numerous times. He served as President of the playhouse during those years. He was later hired by the Orlando Sentinel as the entertainment critic. For many years, he reviewed nearly every aspect of entertainment in Central Florida including theatre, dance, music and nightclubs. Among his many memories of those years were interviews with such celebrities as Frank Sinatra, Petula Clark and Mickey Rooney. Colby was the Executive Vice President of the Holiday House Restaurant Corporation in Deland. After moving to the Orlando area in the early 1970's he remained active in theatre and performed in numerous plays at the Central Florida Civic Theater, the Orange Blossom Playhouse and at Rollins College. Some of Mr. Sinclair's extensive volunteer work included working with the Winter Park Hospital and the Winter Park Drum and Bugle Corps. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Robert C. Sinclair of Winter Park and four grandsons, Andrew, Douglas, Evan and Griffin and many great friends. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
