Diane Jones Obituary

JONES, DIANE EISLEY, a beloved wife and mother, passed away at the age of 73 on August 20th, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dave, and her daughter Kim. Diane was born on November 27, 1932 in Monessen, PA. She served in the United States Navy from 1952-1954. Diane dedicated her entire life to her family, the youth of her community and animals of all kinds. While still in high school in Pennsylvania she wrote an essay on programs that would benefit young women. In the late 60's she moved to Florida and that essay became a reality. In 1970 she co-founded the Walsie L. Ward Girls Club in the Pine Hills community. The next 10 years of her life was dedicated to thousands of young girls who now had a place to go to learn self-confidence, social skills and the value of teamwork through sports of all kinds. In the early 80's she attended a meeting where she learned of the mistreatment of animals in the County in which she lived and the course of her life changed forever. After launching a one-woman campaign to stop pet over- population and countless hours, days, years of meetings, petitions and phone calls, it finally paid off. Orange County agreed to open a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in 1985 and it is now a "model" program for communities all around the country. Diane then founded CARE, a non-profit organization to assist in sterilization for pet owners who cannot afford it. Her legacy will be one of caring and loving others and animals before herself and she will be remembered as a woman that always did what she believed in and on her terms. Challenges are God's tests by which we are measured and Diane has passed them all. Services will be held on August 30th, 2006 at the Carey Hand Cox Parker Funeral Home at 1350 W. Fairbanks Ave, Winter Park, 407-647-1942. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM with a service following at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to CARE. Contributions will be accepted at the service or can be mailed to CARE, 917 Locust Ave., Orlando, FL 32809. You will be missed more than you will ever know......we love you so very much. Dave and Kim. Arrangements are by CAREY HAND COX-PARKER, 1350 W. Fairbanks Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789. 407-647-1942.

Dear Mr. Jones & Kim, I was sorry to hear of Mrs. Jones passing. I remember one x-mas centuries ago when I had no place to stay. Mr. and Mrs. Jones graciously put me up for a night or two. It will be a memory I keep forever. Your kindness was much appreciated.

When asking about the people or person responsible for the low cost spay/neuter animal clinic in Orange County I found that all of my questions led to Diane as the one person that was determined enough to make a difference in the face of strong opposition. Diane was one of a kind that will be missed and the Animals have lost one of their strongest advocates. I wish peace for the family and strong advocates to continue Diane’s work.
