Elsie Hipps Obituary

HIPPS, REV. DR. ELSIE A., R.Sc.F., 73, Minister of the Religious Science Manna Group, made her transition on January 22, 2004 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. A pioneer and accomplished leader in Florida's New Thought community, Rev. Dr. Elsie Hipps founded and served as Minister of The First Church of Religious Science in Daytona Beach and later oversaw the church's move to Ormond Beach. She formerly served as Senior Minister at The First Church of Religious Science in Orlando, and also founded and served as former Dean of the Ernest Holmes Ministerial College in Orlando, FL. She was awarded her Doctor of Divinity in 1984, and was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. She was an inspiring woman whose wisdom and spiritual influence touched the lives of many who will remember and love her always. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John J. Hipps; her sons, John G. Hipps and Stephen L. Hipps; her daughter, Kim van der Sanden; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 2PM at The Garden Chapel, 600 E. Wilkinson St., Orlando, FL. The family requests that anyone wishing to share a written story, photograph or other memorabilia please bring these with you to the service as the family will compile a book of memories as a keepsake in honor and celebration of Rev. Dr. Elsie Hipps' life. The family also respectfully asks that donations be made to the Hospice of the Comforter, 595 Montgomery Rd., Altamonte Springs, FL, 32714, in lieu of flowers. Please denote "In Memory of Elsie Hipps" on your donations.
