Ereck Plancher Obituary
Plancher, a student from Naples, Fla., enrolled early at UCF last year so he could be available for spring practice. He has a cousin who plays football at the University of South Florida. In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel last month, the 5-foot-9, 169-pound wide receiver talked about how in his freshman year in 2007 he focused as much on on academics as much as he did on athletics.
"My goal was to try to get a 4.0 [GPA] in the spring so I could get off to a good start in college," he said. "I wasn't worried about playing time. I just wanted a chance to find my way around."
Plancher earned two letters in football at Lely High in Naples.
He was named a first team All-Area and All-Conference selection as a junior and senior.
He was Lely's Team Offensive MVP as a senior after rushing for 628 yards and seven touchdowns, while also catching 20 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns in limited action. He also earned a letter in basketball and two in track and field.
At Lely High, he was a member of the High Honor Society as a junior and the National Honor Society as a senior (3.9 GPA).
Before signing with UCF, he was also recruited by Eastern Michigan, Inidana, Mississippi, UNLV and South Florida.

We met shortly before you passed... I barely knew you, but I still keep tabs on your family in the news. I pray for them and think about you often. We barely knew each other, and you changed my life. I know you were an amazing person and that you are up in Heaven watching over everyone as you did while you were here.

Just a word to let you know we are still praying for your family and will continue to do so. As a mom, my heart aches for you with this upcoming Mother's Day. But I know Ereck's life and the way he lived it will bring you comfort, knowing that his role now is much bigger than it ever was before. Hey Egghead. Remember those days at Manatee? Man, the first day I met you in the 3rd grade you beat me for class president and I was like "Who is this kid?!!?!?!" I was so angry. And then we became friends. I'm so thankful to have taken Mrs. Murray's class 8th grade year because that's when we became close friends... Our little algebra family of 10 people. We had so much fun, so many memories together. You are the reason that I am where I am today. If I didn't have you or Amanda to CONSTANTLY compete with at Manatee, I can almost guarantee that I wouldn't have the grades that I do now. In those 9 years, you made me a better person and changed my life. I am so proud of everything you have done and I miss you alot...

Its almost going to be a month since youre gone, and there are days where I can't believe that its true. I'm still waiting for the day that you text or call me to see if I know anyone that could give you a ride to or from Orlando ;-) I will never forget those days or should I say late nights where Mark and I were giving you rides back to Orlando, and poor you were in the back trying to get some sleep while the speaker was roaring in your ear and the bass was about to blow you out of my car, lol (you know Mark and his music.)
I guess what Im trying to say is that I am greatful to have known an incredible person like you, and been able to help you out in times of need. R.I.P Ereck, one day we'll all see eachother again.

My life is forever changed. I feel like I lost a child on Tuesday March 18, 2008. I lost one of my dearest students, Ereck Plancher 19, Wide Receiver; University of Central FL, Orlando. He was the light that shined in everyone’s Life, he was the Rock that stood on a solid Christian foundation, he modeled the role, that every student and child should follow. His laughter was contagious, he smile was radiant, his intelligence, athleticism and human nature priceless. I marvel at his leadership, and service. I admire his outgoing and friendly nature. An Angel guiding his friends to the path of success. A guardian Angel to his family. God wanted you with him my dear student, to watch over us, to protect your, Family, Friends, Teachers, Coaches and those who didn’t have the pleasure and honor of crossing your path. You touched and impacted so many lives Ereck. I laugh, I cry, I celebrate the memories of you in Odyssey and Language Arts class. It's quite the tragedy when such an event like this one occurs. Everything is going perfectly in rhythm, but then when you least expect it, tragedy strikes in the most unlikely location. My condolences go out to Ereck's family and I hope his family and the Lely/UCF community can move on just as strong, if not stronger, as they were before this unfortunate event. Cheers.

Man........ I can't bring myself to believing your really gone. Its like you were just here and now your physical body is no longer here. When I first came to Manatee, I didn't know many people, but you'd always try to make me laugh and even when I needed help with math, u never lost patience with me. In Lely, I didn't have class with you but you always stopped to check in with me. I never thought that I'd see this day. The day when I'd be saying good-bye. I'm still in complete shock. You were so amazing. You were a son, a brother, a cousin, a boyfriend, and a friend to many. You were a friend to me. I know that you'd do it big if you were still here. You're very intelligent and you're a great athlete. I just remember when you came to the USF vs UCF game. That night was so great and so fun. And all ten of us watching a movie on a twelve inch tv. that was so funny. And my memories extend back to clowning around at Manor Care. I really did admire you. You were an amazing individual. Ereck your beauty and kind heart extended from your heart to the surface of your skin. I still can't believe that you're gone. I never got a chance to really tell you all of this. And i'm sorry for that. I love you Ereck. And I'm sure that God has extended his arms to you and welcomed you into his pearly gates. Means alot to the Lely High Football Team. He came a long way from barely playing when he was a freshman to starting Varsity Running Back as a Junior. To Ereck's parents I have been praying for you and your family since I heard the news yesterday. I am the mother of Kyle Israel who just played his last season for UCF Football. I can't imagine loosing Kyle or my son Austin. Kyle shared his sadness with me yesterday and said the he had spent some time with Ereck and that he was a very gifted and special young man and that he was what any parent would want their son to be. It is tragic that such a bright young life was brought to an early close. I met him only 11 Days ago at his grandma 80th birthday. he was the most polite young man I ever met. I'm Glad That I Get to Meet You.

I didn't know Ereck, but I know his family, specially his uncle Calvin, one of my Pastor at Eben-Ezer baptist Church in Orlando,a respecful christian family.
