Gary William Butner

1938 - 2021

Gary William Butner, 83, of Sarasota Florida died peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Terry for 60 wonderful years.

Gary was born in Orlando, Florida on May 13, 1938. He was in the first graduating class that attended Boone High School all 4 years.

Gary attended FSU on a track scholarship and then was in the Navy. He and Terry met and were married in 1961 in Naples, Florida. After 4 years in the Navy, they settled in Orlando and raised a family.

Gary worked for Prudential Insurance Company for 32 years. Upon his retirement, they moved to Sarasota in 2001 to be close to the water as Gary was an avid fisherman. Gary and Terry enjoyed traveling throughout the US., Africa, Australia and much of Europe. They also played bridge and enjoyed the many cultural benefits of Sarasota.

Gary was an active member of stamp clubs in Orlando, Sarasota and Venice and dedicated much of his time in later years to his collection which he loved to share with others.

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his son, Mark, and his wife Jill of Winter Park, Fl.; daughter, Nancy, and her husband, David of Indian Harbor Beach, FL, as well as four grandchildren, Morgan, Brandon, Lindsey, and Brooke, and one great granddaughter, Blake. All who loved him deeply for his generosity and tender heart.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, 1603 Greenwood St., Orlando, FL 32801 on Tuesday, December 28th at 1:00.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Bay Village in Sarasota after the first of the year.
