George Nader Obituary

NADER, GEORGE MICHAEL 83, long time Orlando resident died at his home Wednesday evening after a brave and prolonged battle with leukemia. George was born on September 15, 1927 in Jacksonville to Lebanese immigrants, Joseph and Matilda Nader and was raised in St. Augustine where he learned to love the ocean, beach and fishing from the pier. He moved to Orlando in 1958, becoming an active force in the Home Building Community. It was not unusual to be with George and have someone approach him and with a smile remind him of a home he had built them some 20 or 30 years ago. He built many of the bedroom communities for the new "Martin People" moving into town in the 50s and 60s and was the first to build in Tuscawilla. George was a past president of the Home Builders Association of Mid Florida and was active on committees at the state and national level. He was also chosen Builder of the Year. Nader Construction closed some years ago but George never hesitated to let his representatives at any level, know where he stood on the issues. George was a charter member of the Central Florida Offshore Anglers and served on the Board of Directors. He enjoyed many friendships and fishing buddies he met there. He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours on his boat, the Sea Hawk II. Proudly serving in the post WWII Navy he was involved in bringing home ships and troops from the South Pacific. George attended the University of Florida and graduated from the University of Tennessee where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. George was still an active "Volunteer" supporter and loved cheering for the Volunteers. George was a member and devoted parishioner of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Orlando. He was an integral part of the expansion of the parish and school, where his children, Michael and Frances attended. He was on the Building Committee, worked fervently with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a member of the choir. George enjoyed and spent lots of time with his longtime pastor and friend,
Father Paul Henry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Matilda Nader and his brother, Elias Nader. George is survived by his wife, Dottie V. of 52 years, who cared for him so diligently; a son Michael Nader and wife, Amy of Cashiers, NC and their children, Boyd, Ashlyn and Mikey; a daughter Frances Atwater and husband Patrick of Tifton, GA and their children, Patrick III and Anna Lee. George was extremely proud of each and every one. He is survived by his sisters, Marie Nader, Annie Nader Pfaff and Yvonne Pearrow of St. Augustine, Florida and a brother, Nicholas Nader, St. Augustine, Florida and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. George was known and loved by so many people. He left us many wonderful memories. Service will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church Monday at 12 Noon with Father Paul Henry officiating. Burial will follow Thursday with graveside in Winder, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or your favorite charity.

Our deepest sympathy to Dottie, Michael and the entire Nader family. George was gentleman who set a fine example for everyone to follow whether it was family, business or spiritual. He will be missed but his legacy will not be forgotten.

George was a Christian gentleman that quietly modeled what a builder and a man of integrity was to look like to a generation of “Young Turks” trying to put our mark on the world, and I will forever be grateful for his influence in my life.

Having grown up next door to the Nader family, I have many fond years of knowing Mr Nader. I remember him as a man who welcomed our family into his home for many celebrations, fishing adventures and opportunities to get into trouble. He always had a warm smile and kind heart. Mr Nader was a wonderful man. Mrs Nader, Michael and Francis I hope that with every tear you shed 10 special memories replace them. Kathy Heinkel

We all have those "special" ones weave through our lives. Kind, generous, wise and so dependable was George. While I am so deeply saddened by the passing of this delightful friend, George will forever serve to me as the very brightest example of how a great man leads his life.

A gentleman has left us to go to his heavenly home. A friend since 1969, George has left us with wonderful memories. His love of God and his family was obvious in the way he lived his life. An example to many. Dottie V, Michael and Frances, may God give you the strength and peace to face the days ahead. And know that there are many of us that will have you in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.
