George Papritz Obituary

PAPRITZ, GEORGE A., George Adolph Papritz, 89 of Orlando, died on Saturday,
December 30, 2006. He was born January 29, 1917 in Rosedale, Queens, NYC, NY, son of Alexander Alfred and Anna Louise Schneider Papritz. In 1940 he graduated from the College of the City of NY (CCNY) with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and a Commission of 2nd Lieutenant, U.S. Army Reserve. He served with the Army Signal Corps during WWII. He was a Senior Project Engineer; and Director of Consumer Product Safety at Consumers Union of the U.S., publishers of Consumer Reports Magazine. After retirement he continued as a Consultant for Consumers Union until 1999 when he moved to Florida. Mr. Papritz was a nationally recognized expert on Consumer Product Safety. He was a Director of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI); Advisory Council of U.S. Product Safety Commission (CPSC); Standing Committee for Voluntary Standards, National Bureau of Standards, U.S. Dept. of Commerce. He was a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Dyson; son, Gary Papritz; adopted daughter, Kris Kelley; stepdaughter, Karen Kelley; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife and a son. He was buried in Greenwich, CT.
