Gerald LeBoy Obituary

LeBOY, GERALD H., August 21, 1926 - August 18, 2005 Jerry was born in Chicago, Illinois. He is survived by his cherished wife of 51 years, Marilyn, his two children, Leslie Carothers and David LeBoy, his daughter-in-law Anne, his three grandsons, Charlie, Luke and Neil LeBoy and his two brothers, Dick and Harold LeBoy. When he was 18, he served his country with pride as a member of the US Armed Forces during World War II. After the service, he graduated from the University of Illinois. He worked for all of his adult life as a general agent and manager for Transamerica Life Insurance Company. Jerry's life, though, did not revolve around what he did for a living or where he grew up, but around and through his family, friends, and the many organizations over the years where he gave so tirelessly of himself. He served at various times in his life as the President of the Board of the Seminole County Mental Health, Inc., he was an active board member of the Seminole Youth Ranch, a residential facility for troubled youth, he was president of the Maitland Duplicate Bridge Club and as a longtime resident of The Springs in Longwood, FL, he served on the board of directors of The Springs Community Association. In addition, Jerry was an extremely active volunteer for the South Seminole branch of Orlando Regional Hospital. In that capacity, he mentored and befriended many of the employees there and they, in turn, loved him like their own family and made his retirement years meaningful and full of happiness. Our family is very grateful for all they have done for him. He also was a notary public and performed many ceremonies for people over the years. He especially enjoyed marriages as they were happy occasions which matched his naturally upbeat disposition. Jerry's friends are legendary. He has so many because he was always giving and taking care of other people. His most exemplary traits include his amazing sense of humor, his integrity, his selflessness, and his optimism. With these tools, he brought joy and love into countless people's lives. Jerry was a master of the small, kind gesture and never met a stranger who wasn't impacted by his sweet nature. Jerry enjoyed many different hobbies. He loved listening to classical music, gardening, golf, swimming, tennis, poker with his pals, fishing, reading, playing the guitar, piano and trumpet and painting with watercolors. Jerry himself wished to be remembered for never mistreating anyone and for always having a smile on his face. His family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the nurses at South Seminole Hospital and MD Anderson in Orlando for the extraordinary care they took with Jerry to make sure he was comfortable. In addition, we want to thank the loving care given to him in his final week by Hospice of the Comforter and our wonderful helper, Eva. If anyone cares to make a donation in Jerry's name, his family requests that it be made to either MD Anderson, Orlando or Hospice of the Comforter in Longwood. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
