Harry Ward Bower

BOWER, HARRY WARD, 85, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at his home in Orlando. Funeral Services for Mr. Bower will be held Monday, April 8 at 2PM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Born in Sanford, FL on April 15,1916, he moved to Orlando and graduated from Orlando High School. In 1938, he received his BSBA from the University of Florida where he was a member of Florida Blue Key, Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Alpha and became a lifelong 'Gator' fan. Mr. Bower served as a Major in the U.S. Army and married Lucile Jackson Ellison in 1945 in Atlanta. In 1940, Mr. Bower became a founding partner of Potter, Bower & Co., one of Florida's most prominent accounting firms. In 1969 his firm merged with Ernst & Young where he remained Managing Partner until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Bower was President of the Florida Institute of CPAs and a member of the Council of the American Institute of CPAs and Board of Directors of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida. Harry Bower made significant contributions to the community. He was President of the Kiwanis Club of Orlando and the University Club of Orlando and was Treasurer/Director of the Orlando Country Club and the Orlando Youth Center. He served as Vice Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and served on the Orlando Parking Commission and the Orlando Housing Authority. He was a vestry member and Senior Warden at St. Michael's Episcopal Church where he was a communicant for over fifty years. Harry Bower is survived by his wife, Lucile E. Bower; two daughters, Barbara E. Turner and Patricia Bower Block; his son-in-law, Dr. Corbett H. Turner; three grandchildren, Ryan. C. Turner, David C. Turner, and Lauren Bower Block; and two nephews, Michael Bower and Roy Bower of Miami. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, 2449 N.
