Herbert Becker Obituary

BECKER, HERBERT, born April 11, 1916 in New York City, died November 29, 2002. Son of the late Fanny and Harry Becker and predeceased by loving sister, Ruth Leitner. Loving and adored husband of 61 wonderful years of Muriel Becker. Loving father of Irene Becker and son-in-law, Phil Seidel. Adoring grandfather of his precious grandchildren, Jana and Sara Pines. Herb was a veteran on the 44th Infantry Band during World War II. He was an avid and chion surf striped bass fisherman in Long Branch, NJ and founded the Sportman's Club to teach teenaged children to fish. He was also an enthusiastic golfer and bowler. In his early years, he played clarinet with the New Jersey symphony. He was in the permanent band with Major Bowes. He also played with Ted Weems and Nino Rodriquez. He was the owner of Long Branch Sportswear, manufacturer of ladies' rainwear in the 1950's. He was a Mason with the Long Branch, NJ Lodge #78. Herb and Muriel founded the conservative congregation B'Nai Sholom in West End, NJ. Herb was a stockbroker and Vice President with Thomson McKinnon for 32 years until he moved to Florida upon retirement. Graveside services will be held Monday, December 2, 2002 at Beth David, 3201 NW 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, FL at 1:30PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice Care at 5420 NW 33rd Avenue, Suite 100, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309.
