Reverend Herman Dykes

1929 - 2015

Dykes, Reverend Herman passed away suddenly on Tuesday June 2, 2015 at the age of 85, in Tavares, Florida. He grew up in Tavares and graduated from Tavares High School in 1947. He went on to graduate from Maryville University and then Princeton University with a Master's Degree in Theology. He was ordained in 1962 as a Presbyterian Minister, and was also employed by the Department of the Interior, in Washington D.C. He returned to Orlando Florida after his retirement in 1992. He has resided in Tavares with his family for the past 2 years. He is survived by his five nieces, three nephews and their families; along with his beloved whippet dog Haylie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman T Dykes Sr. and Zena M Dykes; his brother Bernard Dykes; and his sister Betty A Dykes Hawthorne Visitation will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Ivanhoe Chapel Thursday 5:30 pm until 8 pm. Services will be held Friday 11 am at St. Stephens Presbyterian Church, Orlando, Florida with committal to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Orlando, Florida.
