Jamal Badarni Obituary

BADARNI, JAMAL M., On December 9, 2003, Jamal M. Badarni gently left his family and friends to go on before them. Jamal was born on February 8, 1958, in the small farming community of Yabid, Palestine. His family had lived there for generations, growing almonds and olives. Jamal was the oldest of six children and the loving son of Fatieh and Mohamed Badarni. He moved to the United States to attend college in 1979. He met Carole Weaver at the University of Florida and they were married in 1981. They moved to Central Florida and settled in Clermont in 1987, where they raised three children, Megan, now 17, Ahmed, age 14, and Tarik, age 8. His brother Basem and his mother Fatieh now live in Orlando. Jamal began working in Hospitality, first at the Holiday Inn-International Airport for five years. He then worked in guest services at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel from it's opening in 1991 until one week before his death from lung cancer. In 1996, Jamal co-founded Community Care and Rehabilitation Center with his wife, Carole. He worked tirelessly, only taking time out for a good game of golf or to coach his children's soccer teams. Jamal is known to the community for his generous spirit, humor and love. His three areas of greatest interest were his family, education and his religion. Donations may be made in his name to: Islamic Center of South Lake County-Building Fund, Masjid Al-Nur, P.O. Box 2293, Minneola, FL 34755; or to: Badarni Education Fund, Imam Abdurrahman Sykes, 532 Summerwood Drive, Clermont, FL 34711; or to: Jamal Badarni Family Fund, Peoples State Bank, Clermont, FL 34711.

I will miss Jamal and his happy upbeat personality as he comes in the door. His phone calls with "any referrals today?" His hummus and tabbouleh!and the joy on his face as he presented it. You could always tell he enjoyed giving to others. He was a wonderful person and loved his family more than anything. I miss him and my prayers are with you Carole, Megan, A.J. and Tarik. Remember all the good times you have had with him.

Jamal had lived his life very peacefully. Everyone that knew Jamal would agree that he was a man with a "white" heart, arabic expression meaning pure and good-hearted. My mom, Fathieh, raised a good man that she misses very dearly. My brother and sisters, including myself, wish to do good things in Jamal's name so that he will always be remembered and dignified amongst us all.

Jamal was like a father to me. I was over at A.J.'s house all the time and he always made me feel welcome. Even when he wasn't in the greatest health, he would always joke and make the world just a little bit brighter. He worked so hard in his job and at his house. He always made sure the yard was in tip-top condition and that Ms. B and the kids had a good place to live. I know that i regarded him as a father to me, and i can only hope that he felt like i was a son to him. My best wishes and blessings (and you know those are pretty good) are with the Badarni family.

I see Jamal so clearly in my mind's eye...smiling and laughing as we kick a soccer ball around with the kids in Maine...I will truly miss him and his wonderful, warm energy...and, I am so grateful to have been blessed with knowing Jamal...he has left his mark on all of us...I send my prayers of healing and my love to my cousin Carol and to AJ, Tarik and Megan...

We will miss Jamal's good nature and smiling face and his devotion to the South Lake Soocer Club. He put in many tireless hours as a coach for the In-House Soccer program. He coached this past season which ended in November. Even though his health was not good, he said he would rather be out there with the kids, than to be sitting around worrying about himself. We are inspired by his courage and strength in the face of uncertainty. Jamal will be missed when our new season begins. Our prayers are with Carole, Megan, A.J. and Tarik.
