Jan Stratton
STRATTON, JAN, Where there were people in need, there was also Jan Stratton. Jan spent decades finding and working with charitable and civic groups across Central Florida, first with the Walt Disney company and then as vice president of community and diversity relations at Universal Orlando. For Jan, helping people was not simply a job. It was her life's work. "Jan Stratton's fingerprints were on so many things," said long-time friend and associate Dick Batchelor. "She gave so much to so many people in this community." Jan was born on August 11, 1956 in Illinois, but grew up in Lakeland and attended Lakeland High School and the University of Central FL. Jan's passion was to help children and families. She also was responsible for guiding hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to various groups on behalf of Universal Orlando. Jan's contribution to local organizations went beyond money and her own time. Over the years, she directly encouraged hundreds of people to volunteer in the community through her work with Universal Orlando's team-member volunteer group. She was also known for custom-fitting volunteer opportunities for people who came to her wanting to get involved in the community, but not knowing which group to work with. Jan Stratton's passions went beyond helping people. She loved music, she loved to sing, she loved to read and she loved to watch movies. Her work to decorate her Bay Hill home for the holidays every year was a local legend. Jan is survived by her husband, Jack Cudworth and her sons, James (wife Ashley) and Michael. In addition, she is survived by her parents, Everett and Leola Demster; her sisters,
Mycea Yancy (Husband David), Rennae Greenwood (husband Lee) and Kelley Giddens (husband Glenn), and her brother, James Demster. As well as dearest family friend Fernando Garcia.

Jan lit up the lives of so many with her warmth, compassion and spirit. I was blessed to work with her on the Special Olympics 25th Anniversary Celebration - which she made possible and which impacted thousands of Special Olympics athletes and their families - but mostly I was blessed to become her friend.
My heart breaks at losing this wonderful, giving, loving woman and for her beloved Jack, her sons and for all of us who will miss her beyond words.

Jan, I will miss you more than you will ever know. You will always my 'favorite sister'!!! Rennae, Kelley and I will miss our sisters get together weekends and roadtrips. Baby sister, I know I will see you in heaven and God had a purpose for this, which I may someday understand, but until that time we are reunited I will always carry you in my heart and weep for myself because I miss you. I love you!!

Dearest Jan,
Our hearts are heavy with this great loss. We know you are with your Heavenly Father in his embrace and at peace.
Our memories of Chautauqua, your home in Orlando and your limitless kindness will always be remembered. When we met you, as the wife of our cherished friend Jack, we rejoiced at the happieness you both shared. This love will always be a treasure. Nothing can ever take that away.
Nothing meant more to you than your beloved Jack, your sons and your family. Of course your "family of friends" and the countless people you worked with, meant everything to you as well.
The little wooden sign, you bought for me last summer, will always hang at the Chautauqua cottage you called "home". It's words "you are truly blessed" will always make us think of you dear one. Your kindness and generousity will always be remembered by the thousands of people you lovingly helped. Especially me and mine.

Our prayers of comfort are continually are sent to dear Jack, your sons and your family. The puppies too.

With great love for a precious lady and dear friend,
Lynn, Christopher and Terry Stinson

You will always be a part of Chautauqua

Jack and Family . . . Jan's spirit shines bright and her soul will keep us strong and warm. My fondest memories are of our times together that she created . . . girl trips to Mt. Dora, wine dinners at your house, community events that brought everyone together. She made Orlando a better place and her footprints are there forever. Our prayers to you, your family, and the community.

Jan was my mentor, mother, friend, and lastly my boss. I will miss her more than you can possibly know. I worked for her from the first day she started at Universal and watched her build our department into one that the company and community respected. She was always doing for others, every birthday she left a message of herself, Jack and the dogs singing (howling) Happy Birthday. She will be missed by many and I'll think of her often.

Jan Stratton
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted…a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance…”
-Ecclesiastes 3:1, 2, 4

This communication is forwarded on behalf of the constituents of Congressional District Three and myself as we pay tribute to the life of Jan Stratton, a noted humanitarian and philanthropist. We are all saddened by the loss of her presence in this life but joyful that she has gone to be with her Heavenly Father.

On this occasion, we join with the immediate family, loved ones and the First Baptist Church of Orlando in saying farewell and praising God for her life. Jan was dearly cherished by her loved ones, colleagues and the community. Jan worked with charitable and civic groups in Central Florida. She was the Vice President of Community and Diversity Relations at Universal Orlando and Vice President of the Universal Orlando Foundation. Her passion was to assist children and families. Jan was also responsible for donating funds to various groups, schools and organizations on behalf of Universal Orlando. Please rest assured that your extended family from Congressional District Three joins your immediate family, The First Baptist Church of Orlando and the community in thanking God for the service and spirit of Jan. As you experience the stage of grief, please find comfort in God’s word as well as strength in God’s wisdom. He is a constant power of strength in these times and will continue to lift you and your family.

Remember, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and loved ones during this time of transition. Your loved one has left behind a thousand moments that will live in your heart forever. There is an emptiness that only those who have lost a close relative can understand. May the sympathy of those who care make the sorrow of your heart less difficult as Jan lived an abundant life; she was a perfectionist and a social service advocate and was highly respected by the community and her peers. Jan will dwell in peace; her new home is entrusted in God’s care. If in any way, my staff or I may assist you or your family, please do not hesitate to call my Orlando District Office.
With warm personal regards, I am
