Janet Secord Pharr

1919 - 2018

Janet Secord Pharr, 98, passed away on July 14, 2018. She was born on September 2, 1919 in Chicago. She graduated from DePauw University with a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. She was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. She worked as a dietitian at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and at the Base Hospital in Orlando. In 1943, she married Walter S. Pharr. They settled in Orlando in 1946 where Walter had been stationed as C.O. of the 421st Night Fighter Squadron during WWII. They were married for 65 years before Walter's death in 2009. They both loved Orlando and became active in First Presbyterian Church and community life. Janet served as a Deacon, college vocational counselor, circle leader, Sunday school teacher, Women of the Church and Mission Committee member. In the community, she volunteered as an ORMC Pink Lady, at the Christian Service Center, Seagraves House, Meals on Wheels and Leu Gardens. She had an interest in everyone and everything!! And she was avid about her tennis and gardening! Survivors include her four children: Suzanne Martin, Marietta, Ga., Cynthia Brackett and Beverly Meadors, both of Orlando, Walt Pharr, Jr., Spearfish, S.D., 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
