K. Keil Obituary

Dr. K. Michael Keil, M.D. (age 67) passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2020 at his home in New Smyrna Beach.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, "Doc Mike" completed his undergraduate studies at Washington & Jefferson College before attending medical school and completing his residency at Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Keil's medical career began in Key West, Florida where he served as physician and medical director of the Emergency Department at Florida Keys Memorial Hospital. Following eight years in the Keys, he practiced emergency medicine at Florida Hospital in Central Florida and at Lake Hospital in Yellowstone National Park. He later served as a hospice and palliative care physician and medical director at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Florida. After retiring from clinical practice in 2010, Dr. Keil taught anatomy at both the UCF College of Medicine in Orlando and at Stetson University in Deland. As a recognized expert in Emergency Medicine, he was often consulted and asked to share his expertise. He truly loved teaching and supporting the development of the next generation of doctors and healthcare workers.

Not only did he have a scientific and analytical mind, but he always brought to his patients a compassionate bedside manner, a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. Dr. Keil was an avid musician and music fan. He loved every genre of music and enjoyed playing his tenor saxophone in the Orlando Big Band, Faith Assembly Jazz Big Band, Shriners Band, and the VFW-Post 2093 Community Band. Dr. Keil was a Freemason, Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite. Dr. Keil was an aviation enthusiast and earned his private pilot license while living in the Florida Keys.

He is survived by his beloved daughters: Jennifer Keil Bohanon (Ft. Myers, FL), Emily Keil (Charlotte, NC) and their mother, Barbara Keil (Longwood, FL). He also leaves five surviving siblings, Kaye Braxton, Joan Keil, Philip Keil, David Keil, and Paul Keil, and their families, all whom he loved very much. He is predeceased by his father, Pastor William H. Keil; mother, Marguerite Palms Keil; brothers, John Keil and Bill Keil; and his cherished Golden Retriever, Boomer.

Dr. Keil's ashes will be interred at Spring Hill Cemetery, East Liverpool, Ohio with family. A private family memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

In Memoriam donations can be made to the Southeast Volusia County Humane Society in New Smyrna Beach or the Orlando Big Band.

If I have the right person I think my grandfather and your father's great grandfather were partners in the florist business in East Liverpool. I would love to connect with you if possible. I live in Kissimmee.
