Paul Heinsohn Obituary

HEINSOHN, PAUL MACLEN, a five-year resident of John Knox Village in Orange City, FL, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003. Paul was born July 23, 1925 in Pontiac, MI, the son of Paul E. and Floy MacLennon Heinsohn. On September 11, 1948 a wedding in Kalamazoo, MI united Paul and Barbara French. In 1954 the couple moved to Winter Park, FL residing there for 23 years before moving to Tavares where they lived the next 20 years and where they enjoyed activities of the Tavares Boating Club. Throughout their married life the Heinsohns traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states in addition to 65 countries on all continents except Antarctica. During World War II Paul served in the Navy for three years. When the chaplain found out that he played the piano and organ, Paul was relieved of other duties in order to assist the chaplain. For many years Paul was employed by Chrysler Motor Company and in 1954 he was transferred to Florida. Three years later he joined Keller Music Company in Orlando where, as an organ salesman, he was able to demonstrate his musical abilities. He had purchased his first organ in 1955 and recently replaced it with a Roland "Atelier", a fantastic electronic organ capable of reproducing all musical instruments. Paul delighted in showing off this wonderful "toy" as well as playing the piano and (or) organ for events at John Knox Village. At the weekly socials he was the life of the party as his nimble fingers played all the old favorites for the sing-a- longs. Paul is survived by his wife, Barbara; their daughter, Ann, and her husband, Thomas Knowlton of Indian Harbor Beach, FL and their son, Dr. Mark Edward Heinsohn and his wife, Alice of Chattanooga, TN; also grandchildren David and Kelly Knowlton, Drew, David and Alice Heinsohn. There will be a memorial service at John Knox Village at a later date. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

Paul was just a wonderful, generous, loving person.

We were neighbors of Paul and Barbara for a little over a year at John Knox Village. We became good friends and truly enjoyed Paul's sense of humor, his appetite for life and, of course, his passion for good food. We loved and miss both Paul and Barbara and are saddened by Paul's passing. Barbara, we know you have many memories of a full and happy life with Paul -- may they carry you through this time of grief. Also, let there be an organ in heaven so that Paul can continue his wonderful, impromtu recitals!

He will be missed!

With our love and blessings to all the family.
