Peter Garbutt Obituary

GARBUTT, PETER MURRAY, 75, Winter Springs, FL, died at The Gulfside Regional Hospice House in New Port Richey, FL on Monday, April 14, 2008 following a courageous but brief battle with cancer. He was born in Coventry, England on February 10, 1933 and was the son of Ralph John Garbutt and Dorothy Bruce Garbutt. His family moved back to their native home of Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada where he was raised. He lost his hearing and became totally deaf at age 2. He went to school at the Manitoba School for the Deaf and the Mackay School for the Deaf in Montreal and also took courses in Art at the Sir George Williams College. He became very interested and active in hockey, basketball and running. He then attended the Kendall School for the Deaf in Washington D.C. and graduated with the Class of 1952 and later that year he began a lifetime of steady work at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. He moved his family to Albany, Georgia after the Akron, Ohio plant closed and later retired with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in 1985. After retirement he moved closer to his daughters in Florida and had been living in the Central Flor-ida area since 1995 and he became a dedicated and active part-time employee of Publix Supermarkets in Winter Springs, FL until he became ill. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jacqueline S. Garbutt, daughter Deborah Felumlie, Nashport, OH, son Douglas Bates of Ohio, daughters, Judy Chalker, Winter Springs, FL, Kim Baron, Port Richey, FL and her husband, Philip Baron, daughter Leslie McKay, Winter Springs, FL, and 11 grandchildren living in Ohio and Florida. His memorial service will be held Monday, April 21, 2008 at 11AM at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 5873 Dean Road, Orlando, FL 32817. Arrangements entrusted to Robert Bryant Funeral & Cremation Chapel, Orlando.

give you my sorrow, i will remember him, I had great time with peter for long time at the akron deaf club, he taught me lot of stuffs at the club, culture etc, i will never foroget him. i will always miss him.

I'm so sorry to hear of Peter's passing. I used to talk to him in the break room. (I work at Publix) He would love to write notes and loved to laugh. We'll all miss him. My prays are with your family.
