Phyllis Ross Obituary

ROSS, PHYLLIS ELAINE, 62 of Kissimmee, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at home with her family by her side, after a courageous fight from Pancreatic cancer. She was born in Muncie, Indiana and moved to Kissimmee in 1997 from Marion, Iowa. Phyllis retired from Enesco as a Central Florida Sales Rep in 2001. Soon after, she was diagnosed with colon cancer, underwent chemo and was cured. Phyllis is the founder and president of Gallery One Artists in Kissimmee, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the board and was a member of Main Street Kissimmee and Main Street St. Cloud, organizations dedicated to revitalizing downtown areas. During the last five years she devoted herself to improving the art scene in Osceola County. She was former director of Visual Arts for the Osceola Center for the Arts. Phyllis was a gifted painter but was more interested in promoting other artists and the arts in general. She was a Methodist by faith. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Richard "Dick" Max Ross of 43 years; son, Richard Max "Butch" Ross Jr. (Dawn) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughters, Robbin Powers (Brian) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Renee Ross of Orlando; brother, Scott Smith of Muncie, Indiana and sister, Patricia Stroh (Dave) of Vallejo, California; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild. A Service to celebrate the life of Phyllis Elaine Ross will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at 4PM at Conrad & Thompson Funeral Home. You can visit with the family and view displays of Phyllis's art starting at 3PM. The Celebration of Life Service will start promptly at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Osceola Center for the Arts, toward the Gallery Bench Project, 2411 Irlo Brunson Highway, Kissimmee, FL 34744 or Hospice of the Comforter. Arrangements by Conrad & Thompson Funeral Home, 511 Emmett St., Kissimmee, FL 34741, 407-847-3188. Phyllis will be greatly missed but her life will live on in our memories and through her art.
