Robert Neitzel Obituary

NEITZEL, ROBERT E., age 75, of Winter Park, Fla. passed away Thursday, August 8, 2002. Born in Milwaukee, Wis. November 11, 1926, Mr. Neitzel went on to attend the Navy V-12 Officer training program in engineering at the University of Wisconsin. Upon graduating with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1947, he joined General Electric in its Advanced Engineering Program. After early stints in Schenectady N.Y., Lynn, Ma., and Cincinnati, Ohio, he returned to the GE plant in Lynn, Ma. in 1962 and became a long time resident of Marblehead, Ma. As a preliminary designer in the aircraft engine industry for 46 years, Mr. Neitzel's designs resulted in the technical and cycle definitions of many of General Electric's jet engines including the F101, F404, F110, TF39, CF6, CFM56, GE25, E3, GGE27, and LV100 jet engines. This work resulted in six U.S. patent awards and well over sixty published papers and reports in his name. Mr. Neitzel retired from General Electric in 1993 and later moved to Winter Park, Fla. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane Neitzel of Winter Park, Fla.; brothers, Albert Neitzel of Florence, Wis. and Jim Neitzel of Brookfield, Wis.; daughters, Jill Neitzel of Newark, Del. and Beth Willhoite of Freeport, Maine; son, Jim Neitzel of Winter Park, Fla., and nine grandchildren. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the University of Wisconsin Foundation- Neitzel-Steinmetz Scholarship Fund, 1848 University Ave. P.O. BOX 8860, Madison, WI 53708-8860 in memory of Robert F. Neitzel.
