Rodney Bowers Obituary

On February 5, 2022, at 5:13 p.m., Rodney (Rod) L. Bowers (Lt. Col., Retired) passed away at the Dr. Phillips Hospital Emergency Room in Orlando, Florida. The cause of death was respiratory failure. He was 77 years old. Rod was born in Washington, D.C. on January 14, 1945 to Roy Miller Bowers and Christine Margaret Williams. He lived most of his life in the Washington Metropolitan area. Rod graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He served for 25 years in the Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA (June 1986), and the Defense Systems Management College (December 1986). During his service with the Marine Corps, Rod was recognized for numerous achievements, receiving Commendation Medals (including Gold Star), Certificates of Appreciation, Letters of Appreciation, and personal appreciation letters. His last position with the Marine Corps prior to retirement in 1990 was Director of Executive Services, Marine Corps Research, Development, and Acquisition Command (MCRDAC), Hqs., Washington, D.C.

In 1990, Rod founded Stone Webb, an advertising company, located in Old Town Alexandria, where he was a long-time resident prior to moving to Fairfax, VA. In 2011, Rod retired to Orlando, Florida where he lived in the suburb of Windermere. He is survived by his brother, Stanley Bowers of Austin, Texas; his sister, Elizabeth Bowers of Bradenton, Florida; daughter, Kathryn Anne Bowers Benagh of Falls Church, VA; son, John Clark Bowers of Everett, MA, and his companion of 32 years, Patricia Rogers. Rod is interred at the Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

The Korean War Veterans Association Department of Florida and Chapter 173 Casselberry send our condolences on the passing of our Brother In Arms Rodney L. Bowers (US Marine Corp. Lt. Col. MCRDAC Retired 1965-1990).
He served his country well and honorably.
