SHIRLEY PARVIN Obituary

PARVIN JR., SHIRLEY
AUSTIN, "PARV" passed away after suffering a stroke and walked into the presence of God on March 16, 2010, in Orlando, FL. Born in Alabama on Feb. 22, 1919, Parv knew the challenges and triumphs of life. He was the first member of his family to escape working in the Appalachian coal mines when he was admitted to officer's flight school. Parv would later go on to be the first college graduate in his family earning a degree from the University of Miami. As a First Lieutenant and pilot of a B-17, Parv was a WW II hero who saved the lives of his fellow airmen after being shot down over Germany. He suffered as a POW but was proud of his country and his time spent in military service. After retiring from the military, Parv moved his family to the warmth of Miami where he was a senior executive with Anaconda Aluminum. But his greatest joys were God, family and the game of golf. Over the course of many years Parv (who was on the Board of Governors of the Country Club of Miami) won numerous "amateur division" golf championships including the prestigious State of Florida Championship. In addition, Parv traveled to Scotland and played at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, where his name is in The Book of Golf for his numerous holes in one. Parv retired with his wife Jean to Daytona Beach where he was a founding member of the Pelican Bay Country Club in South Daytona. Even well into his 60's, Parv won the Pelican Bay club championship and played with professional golfers at various senior and charity events. Parv continued to play the game of golf until he was past 90 years of age. Parv's legacy is spectacular dedication to his country during World War II, his deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his never-ending love for family. He was an extraordinary man and these few words are simply insufficient to describe a life well-lived. His family cherishes and remembers him with love and laughter as he was truly larger than life. Parv was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Jean Snyder Parvin, in 2007. He was also predeceased by his first wife of 13 years Ruby Mann Parvin. He is survived by his daughter, Celia Ann (Jack) Carnes, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Linda
Parvin Hutchin¬son (Kenneth), Orlando, FL; son, Philip Neil (Sue) Parvin, Norfield, Mississippi; son, Charles Austin (Kathi) Parvin, Glendale, Arizona; as well as 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; Parv was also survived by four sisters and one brother. We will miss Dad and remember him with pride and love for being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to Rima Ridge Baptist Church at 11 Cone Rd., Ormond Beach, FL. A full military funeral will be held, Monday, March 22, at First Baptist Church of Winter Park, FL, beginning at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Its been 7 1/2 months since Daddy went home to Jesus. His biggest hearts desire was to see his children in a Bible preaching, Bible teaching church and worshiping the LORD. Daddy was indeed a "gentle giant" ........his big hands were so full of love for others and his Savior and his kind heart always believed in the best. We miss him and always will. Our comfort is in knowing that he is sitting with Jesus and singing praises to HIS NAME and enjoying every minute. He loved music and I just know that all of heaven is ringing with the sound of his laughter and his joy.
We miss him.

It sadden my heart to hear of Parv's passing. He was a very special person to me and my daughter Ashley. We have loved him every since we met him at our church, Rima Ridge Baptist. I know he is with his loving wife Jean now. Jean was an angel to my family. She was sent to us when my mom went thru and succumbed to cancer. I will forever remember them both. God Bless this family.

Parv was known as the "Godfather" of our group of golfers at Pelican Bay CC in Daytona Beach for 20 years. He ran the games with a firm but fair hand. He was respected and well liked by the guys and all the staff at PBCC.
We know he had a full life and is where he wants to be now.

What a life reflected in God, Love, Strength, and Courage of Grandpa Parvin. My brother, sister and I have great memories of time together with him and family in Florida. He was truly a man of charater and wisdom. His confidence was apparent from his devotion to his family to his respect for all people. He didn't know a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He truly made an impact on our lives and we look forward to being together again in Heaven. When a beautiful story has been lived out, we will forever keep him alive in our hearts!

This is what family is all about. My Big Brother was our Hero, Leader and an Example for the rest of his five siblings. He was the oldest who took care of us when Mother was in the hospital on several occasions. He washed our clothes, cooked, and got us off to school . Since he was the oldest, he was held to the highest example and did this with the humor that was so much a part of his personality Even as we began raising our families and could not be as physically close, we knew that he would be there for us . We pass on His stories to our children and grandchildren so his legacy remain as part of us forever. He taught us much. We will love him forever. Lee Parvin Stoffle

Daddy was a great father. He taught us honesty & integrity (being honest even when no one sees you - (don't cheat on the golf course or anyplace else in life..)

He led by example in teaching us kindness, love for family and Jesus.

He taught us to laugh a lot, be true to Yourself and God, always do your share of the work, and help others when at all possible. '

He was always thankful.....even to thanking my Mother and then my stepmom after dinner......He would say "Good dinner Mom...." When you would call him, he always thanked you for calling. He appreciated what people did for him.

He taught us manners...A Gentleman opens doors for ladies and he stands when ladies enter a room.

He loved his God, his country, and his family.

He taught us to tihe because after all, its all God's resources anyway. and its a form of worship.

He taught us good stewardship in using the resources God gave us....impressed us with using our money and talents as God intends us to.

He was faithful in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We will be with him again in heaven and then God will wipe away all tears and sorrow from our eyes......Daddy now lives with Jesus and is rejoined with those who went before him and he longed to see again.

With love
Celia Parvin Carnes (daughter)
