WILLIAM STAMPER Obituary

STAMPER, WILLIAM H. "BILL", a devout Christian, was born December 5, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA. He is loved by his wife of 57 years, Blanche and his sons William F., Christopher, and Robin. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and flew missions over Germany and Northern Africa. Possessed with a wonderful voice, Bill sung in musicals, operas and church as well as narrating on many videos. He worked for many years at WDBO, winning multiple awards for sports radio journalism. He created and hosted the very 1st sports talk radio show in Central Florida in the 1970's. Well known for his sense of humor and uncanny imitations, Bill also taught vocal lessons and wrote beautiful poetry. He had a kind word for all he met and was loved by everyone who knew him. Our loss is heaven's gain. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, February 5, at the Reformation Lutheran Church on Michigan St. at 2 p.m.

To the Family,
Bill worked with my father, Joe Myron (Orlowske) at WDBO in the 60's. We probably have similar pictures of them in 'the booth.' My heart is with you in your loss.

Bill Stamper was at the top of the top shelf of radio people (and people in general) I ever had the pleasure of knowing. We worked together at WDBO, where he demonstrated professional excellence in the extreme with his sports / talk show, but even more so in his production / acting talents. Bill taught us about real "old school" radio drama acting, and demonstrated it with his superb performances in projects we did together. His bright, cheerful, enthusiastic, positive lamp lit up every room his was in. We will always remember you Bill ... and your voice(s) will replay forever in our memories, like an endless loop cart without a recue tone.

A great loss to all who knew him. He was kindly known to me as 'Uncle Bill', brother to my father. A pioneer in the sports talk-radio industry and more importantly an outstanding citizen and beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. I will remember my uncle as witty and intelligent, compassionate, communicable and extremely entertaining. I can see him now lighting up everyone as he walks through those pearly gates. Say 'hello' to dad for me.
Aunt Blanche, Bill, Chris, Robin,.... may the Lord give you courage and strength and keep you going through this tough time. God Bless

My Uncle Bill (My father's brother) had more of an influence on me then most anyone I have ever known. He was not only a kind and genuine person but these rare qualities were combined with an incredible sense of humor and an incredible ability for various vocal talents, along with these gifts he had an unstumpable mind for sports trivia and knowledge in general. I now use my voice for the same type of talents and I have my Uncle Bill to thank for it!My only regret is that I did not have the chance to see him one more time after many years. My sympathy to you Aunt Blanche,Billy,Chris and Robin and thanks Uncle Bill. I miss and love you

I flew to an Orlando Panthers away game once and had the pleasure of sitting next to him on the flight. Had me in stitches for 2 solid hours! best Flight ever and since. Rest well Bill.

I knew Bill Stamper when I was a child in Orlando. He was one of the most gentle and kind men that I remember. I loved the way he respected and loved his wife, Blanche, my piano teacher.

Bill was a most gracious and caring gentleman. He never received enough credit for being the pioneer of sports talk radio in Orlando. Local sports especially the high schools and the students who participated were always front and center because of him. Orlando has lost a true champion.

I worked with Bill back in the early '70's at WDBO. He was a great guy, had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved life! Condolences to his family and friends.
