Mary Karr Obituary
She was born on Aug. 30, 1954 in Detroit to the late Charles Franklin and Marian Catherine (Marson) Green. Mary graduated from Redford Union High School in 1972 and went on to obtain her cosmetology license. She co-owned and operated the Hair-Em Salon in Livonia with her sister, Julie Green.
Mary also worked for the Livonia Observer in the customer service department for many years and it was while working there that she met the love of her life. Mary married Robert H. Karr Jr. on April 16, 1983 at Nardin Park United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills, where Robert and Mary were both members. In 2006, they moved to Oscoda, and began to build their life in Northern Michigan.
Mary worked for H&R Block in both Tawas and Oscoda for many years. She had many interests and hobbies over the years, but her family will remember her for her love of conversations, contagious laugh, the ability to plan and organize just about anything, her passion for MSU sports, her creativity and ability to design and sew roller skating competition outfits for her son, Matthew and Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, her love of ducks and her beautiful gardens.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Robert H. Karr Jr.; children, Carol (Dave) Karr-Jelinek, Tammy (Greg) Deppong, Robert H. Karr III, Matthew (Tommy) Karr and Christina (Andy) Moran; grandchildren, Emma and Lauren Jelinek, Collin, Thomas and Jane Deppong, Luke Karr and Daleigh Kay Moran; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles F. Green II and John Green; and sister, Julie Green.
The family will welcome friends on Monday, Oct. 18, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service beginning at noon at Oscoda United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the local humane society. You may offer your condolences online to the family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
