Carol Stewart Obituary

Carol Lee Stewart of Oshkosh, Wisconsin went to be with her heavenly father on November 11, 2025 at the age of 91. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Oral and Evelyn (Gudex) Stewart on November 23, 1933.

Carol's journey on this earth was marked by her skills as an educator, community service support member, and her unwavering faith in God.

Carol is survived by her loving sister, Nancy Peterson, nephews; Mark (Connie), Keith (Carla), and Gary (Mary) Peterson, great nephews and nieces; Kyle (Julie), Morgan, Elizabeth, and Ethan Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brother-in-law Charles "Chuck" Peterson.

After graduating from Milwaukee Pulaski High School in 1951, Carol received a Bachelor of Science in Lower Elementary Education from Wisconsin State College of Milwaukee in 1955. She earned a Master of Science in Education at The University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1962. Later, Carol enjoyed continuing education with the Learning in Retirement Program at UWO.

Carol dedicated her life to the love of teaching. She worked as an elementary teacher for 6 years in Milwaukee, 4 years in Sauk City, and 23 years in Oshkosh. She worked and came to love hundreds of children at Green Meadow, Merrill, Roosevelt, Read, and Oakwood Elementary Schools in Oshkosh. As an educator, she was a member of several teacher organizations, including the Wisconsin National Education and Oshkosh Education Associations.

After retiring in 1990, Carol spent her time studying the history of, and volunteering for, the Oshkosh Paine Art Center and Gardens and The Grand, Oshkosh. She took pleasure in giving tours, selling tickets, and ushering at these community centers.

Carol served her Almighty Savior by teaching Sunday school, playing organ, and reading during service at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Choir, Altar Guild, Council, Mary Circle, and Bell Choir.

Getting to know others in the community was something Carol cherished. She was a member of The Red Hat Society, Community Theater, Oshkosh Choraliers, and Women of ELCA.

Carol enjoyed traveling worldwide to Minneapolis, London, Great Britain, and Canada. She especially treasured traveling to her ancestral countries of Scotland and Denmark on her father's side, and Germany on her mother's side.

Although Carol's presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit of teaching and learning will continue to inspire us. May her memory be a blessing.

Thank you to the entire Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church Care Team for the many, many hours spent helping in the final months of Carol's life.

A Memorial service for Carol will be held on Saturday December 6, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church (1860 Wisconsin St. Oshkosh Wi.) Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Christ our Savior Lutheran Church, The Paine Art Center and Gardens, and The Grand, Oshkosh.
