Gordon Cady Obituary
In Loving Memory of Gordon "Gordy" Rexford Cady
April 13, 1939 – July 13, 2025
Gordon "Gordy" Rexford Cady passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 13, surrounded by his loving family. Born to Connie and Rex Cady on April 13, 1939, Gordy grew up in Omro, Wisconsin, and attended Omro schools, graduating from Omro High School in 1957. On January 2, 1958, he married the love of his life, Beverly (Anklam). Together they raised six children and built a life full of love, laughter, and memories. While still in high school, Gordy joined the U.S. Navy and went on active duty shortly after graduation. He served honorably aboard the USS Antietam before returning home in 1960. Soon after, he joined the Oshkosh Fire Department, where he proudly served his community for 26 years. Following his retirement, Gordy stayed active and continued to serve his community through his involvement with the AMVETS, American Legion, and the Honor Guard. He was also proud to have built his own log home, a place where family and friends made countless memories together. And he brought joy to others through his love of music, playing banjo in several pick-up bands - at least until the banjo "got too heavy for him to hold," as he liked to say with a smile. Above all, Gordy cherished his family. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Kitty were his pride and joy, and he especially loved taking trips with Louie on the bus - never forgetting the blizzard in North Dakota.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 67 years, Beverly; his son, Kevin Cady; and his daughters, Kathy (Dean) Crook, Kelly (Eric) Rennert, and Sally (Doug) Brewer. He is also survived by his sister, Marge (Ron) Lee; sister-in-law, Ruth Cady; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Gordy was a beloved grandfather to Cole (Carrie) Cady, Mandy (Jamie) Basham, Jessica (Matt) Ricca, Kyle (Gina) Cady, Joshua (Elizabeth) Crook, Jesse Crook and Emily Kolar, Jacob (Amanda) Crook, Jozie Rennert, Brady Rennert and Elizabeth Stangel, Bryce Rennert, Johnny (Kate) Brewer, Abigail Brewer, Rachel Brewer, Ryan Brewer, and Joe (Bridget) Phillips. He was also blessed with 19 great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his special friends: JD Hogg; Barb and Jerry; Gloria and Doug; Butch and Heidi; Louie and Shelby; and Bonnie and Junior. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his hospice nurse Whitney, and to Emily and Mandy, for their exceptional love and care in his final days.
Gordy was preceded in death by his sons Alan (Cindy) Cady and Scot Cady; his parents Connie and Rex Cady; his brothers Roland and Kenneth; and his in-laws Roy and Mary Anklam.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 South Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with a funeral service to follow at noon, including full military honors in recognition of Gordy's service to his country.
