Larry Schmick Obituary
After graduating from Omro High School, he enlisted in the Marine Reserves during the Korean War era. On January 4, 1958, he married the love of his life, Janet Marie Marx. Together, they made an inseparable team and raised three children.
Larry excelled at many things, like becoming a pilot, farming the land, building two of the family homes with his bare hands and went on to be a body shop owner. He loved to tinker with machines and motorcycles, paint, create things with wood and made hundreds of cross-stitch memorials. He made wooden pocket crosses and gave them away to anyone he came across to brighten their day and remind them that you had a friend in him. His faith was strong, and his heart was full of love and kindness.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend and he will be deeply missed.
Larry is survived by his wife, Janet Schmick; children, Leonard (Teresa) Schmick, Tod (Debbie) Schmick and Larry G. (Tracie) Schmick; grandchildren, Jennifer (Arien) Fredenhagen, Ken (Cara) Schmick, Amber Schmick, Christy (Chad) Neumaier, Becky (Jason) Springborn, Brandon (Katie) Stahmann, Kellie (Anthony) Schwochert and Kayla (John Paul) Darling; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Viola) Schmick; sisters, Jenece Drissen and Linda Pethke; many cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Preceding him in death were his great-granddaughter, Mesa; parents, George Schmick Jr. and Carol (Buchanan) Schmick; as well as several other family members.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Plymouth Church, 1325 Georgia St., Oshkosh, WI, 54902, from 10:00am to 11:00am and service from 11:00am to 12:00pm. His final resting place will be at Lake View Memorial Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice and Dr. Heinzen, as well as all the friends and neighbors (especially Mary Neustifter), for all of the support and care they gave Larry and the family along the way. You were truly a blessing during this difficult time.
