CHARLOTTE MAY DEHN
Our loving mother, Charlotte May (Winter) Dehn, 89, of Ottawa, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 30, 2025, surrounded by family at Rock Creek of Ottawa.
She was born January 9, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Glen and Georgia (Seavey) Winter. At the age of 12, Charlotte, her sister Shirley, and their pet cat Pepper moved to Richmond, KS, to live with their three great aunts, whom she loved and respected immensely.
While living in Richmond, she enjoyed her teenage years and made lifelong friends. She completed her GED and took courses at both Ottawa University and Neosho County Community College. Education was very important to her, partly because her Great Aunt Mattie was a school teacher.
On October 25, 1953, Charlotte was united in marriage to Alvin F. Dehn at Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Kansas. They were happily married for 69 years until Alvin's passing on May 17, 2023.
Charlotte worked at H&R Block for twenty years and truly enjoyed the people she worked with. In earlier years, she was a bookkeeper for OK Photo, a church secretary for Faith Lutheran Church, a clerk at Butler's Music Store, and a seamstress at H.D. Lee. Her most important work was raising her four children and being a dedicated caregiver.
Charlotte was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Loaf Club, Franklin County Genealogy Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She kept herself busy being a room parent, 4-H leader, Brownie leader, and attending every event her children participated in. Charlotte enjoyed documenting family history and sharing it with anyone who was interested. Her wealth of knowledge of family history will be greatly missed. She also enjoyed music, drawing, animals, county fairs, KU basketball, and vacations. Weekends always included spending time with dear friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Georgia Winter; her husband, Alvin Dehn; and her great aunts.
She is survived by four children, Debra Hunsaker (Dave), of Ottawa, KS, Fred Dehn (Patty) of Spring Hill, FL, Gary Dehn (Shelly) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Lisa Moyer (Bryan) of Wichita, KS; four grandsons, Cale Moyer, Nathan Moyer, Denny Livezey, and Ryan Livezey; several great-and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Pierce of Ottawa, KS; and a niece and many nephews.
We want to thank the staff and residents at Rock Creek for making it their home away from home for the past year. She participated in many of the fun activities and made new friends while living there.
Throughout Charlotte's life, she was an unselfish person, serving in a quiet manner. She will be missed by many.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS. To celebrate Charlotte's life, a visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November
13, 2025, at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory St, Ottawa, KS 66067.
