Carolyn "Sue" Travis

Carolyn "Sue" Travis, 78, of Sanford, passed away surrounded by family early Sunday morning, April 19, 2015 in Midland. She was born June 8, 1936 in Fairmont, W. Va., first child and daughter to the late Robert L. Greynolds and the late Janet Greynolds of Beaverton.

Her family moved from West Virginia to Beaverton in 1942, where she attended Beaverton Public Schools. She graduated from Edward W. Sparrow School of Nursing and worked as a nurse at the Dow Chemical Medical Department until her retirement. She was proud to be a licensed nurse for the rest of her life.

Her true love was Dick Travis of Shepherd, whom she married in 1964. They divorced in 1996 following a long separation.

Sue lived on Sanford Lake for almost 50 years, and found her greatest joy working on ceramics, going to yard sales, spending time with her daughter, playing cards with friends and family and maintaining her collections. She was most well known in Beaverton and at Dow for her love of driving fast in her convertible, and her warm, calm presence.

She will be missed by her daughter, Debra (Maya Ciarrocchi) Travis of New York City; her sister, Peggy (Eric) Hillman of Beaverton; her brother, Fred (Cheryl) Greynolds of Beaverton; several nieces and nephews; and her Bichon, Bentley.

Funeral Services will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Ware-Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street, with the Rev. John C. Pohanka officiating. Sue's family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Her ashes will be interred at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at Beaverton Cemetery.
