Danny Hill Obituary

Danny Hill
In Loving Memory. Danny "Dan" Mickael Hill.
January 26, 1949 August 2, 2025.
A Life Well-Lived.
Danny "Dan" Mickael Hill, 76, of West Branch, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, surrounded by his children. Born in Clintonwood, Virginia, Dan was the youngest of six siblings and lovingly known as "Mike" by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, infant son Matthew, and his beloved wife, Sharon.
Dan proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In 1969, he married Sharon DesJardins, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and purpose. He earned degrees in education from Eastern Michigan University and Central Michigan University, dedicating his career to Midland Public Schools. Dan served as a special education teacher, wrestling coach, counselor, and principal of Mills Elementary School until his retirement in 2004.
He found joy in the outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and cherished time spent with family, especially as "Papa" to his grandchildren. Winters in Florida and tinkering in his garage brought him peace. In later years, he shared companionship with his life partner, Linda.
Dan is survived by his children; Heather Shanteau and Steven (Stacey) Hill ; grandchildren Andrew, Carter, Evan, Caden, and Kira; and great-granddaughter Josie. He will be remembered for his integrity, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to family, students, and community.
A private Celebration of Life will be held for close friends and family.

It was a privilege to have known 3 of the 4 members of the Hill family. Unfortunately, Heather and I didn't cross paths at Mills School but Steve and I spent 180 days together in 2nd grade. So I knew him well. Steve was the kind of student every teacher appreciates: friendly, mannerly, attentive and a good worker. I got to know his mom when she came for conferences. Sharon was a sweet, very positive lady - always with a smile. Dan was a great principal - a good leader who was always kind, supportive and respectful of his staff. He was not only my principal, but my friend as well. When my father passed away, he and Sharon took time out of their busy lives to come to the funeral home in Saginaw to pay their respects. I was and continue to be touched by that memory. Sending warm thoughts to Steve and Heather.

Dan Hill hired me at Mills Elementary in 1998. He demonstrated kindness and thoughtful leadership. Everyone loved and respected him. I am so grateful for the years I worked under Dan and his commitment to Midland Public Schools.
