Eugene Timothy Mayer

1965 - 2013

Eugene Timothy Mayer, 47, of Sanford, died after a long courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. He was born June 13, 1965, to John and Elizabeth (Snider) Mayer in Lakeview. He married Dawn Marie Bloomberg on July 24, 1999, in Remus.

Eugene graduated from Chippewa Hills High School in Remus, where he was involved in football, wrestling and track. He then continued his education and wrestling at Muskegon Community College and finished up at ITT in Grand Rapids. Eugene was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sanford, a member of the Knights of Columbus 7869 in Remus. He loved to play cards, throw horseshoes, attend family gatherings, play ball with his boys, and spend time with his wife and boys. Eugene will be best remembered for his love of family and his Catholic faith.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 13 years, Dawn, and two sons, Jacob (12) and Andrew (8). He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; sister, Barbara Yanez; brother, Martin; in-laws, John Granville, Herman Simon, Willie Yanez and Suanne Youngs; and nieces, Rebecca Mayer, Stephanie Simon and Ashley Mayer.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Sanford, with Father Dan Fox Celebrant. The family will receive friends at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly, on Monday, from 4-7 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., and at church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery.
