G. Finney Obituary

Gale Mike Finney, 92, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 in Grand Rapids. He was born on Dec, 9, 1924 in Coleman, to Harry and Arvilla (Slee) Finney. Mike was proud to have served in the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 following a tour of duty throughout several islands, concluding with the Battle of Iwo Jima. Mike married Agnes Viola Bradt on June 24, 1948 in Angola, Ind. and they made their home in Midland before moving to Barryton in 1979. In the late 70's, Mike retired from Dow Chemical where he was a mechanic. Mike and Agnes were members of the Eagle Ridge Church of God in Midland. Agnes passed away in 1989 and Mike married Oral (Gross) Williams on July 22, 1990. Mike was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was loving and caring when it was needed most.

Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger; looked forward to a good wood working project and helped raise quarter horses. He was passionate about gardening and used his talents to help keep the Barryton Church of God's landscape and flower beds immaculate. He never had a cross bone and even in his weakest state was still thinking of others and whispering "it's wonderful, wonderful, wonderful."

Mike leaves behind his family and friends to celebrate his life, they include: two daughters, Jean (Vernon) Bitler of Barryton and Sharon (William) Kruskie of Anchorage, Alaska; stepdaughters, Judy (Sherrill) Bongard, Jane (Dick) Duffey and Janice Thompson; eight grandchildren, who will continue to remember Mike as the best grandpa in the world; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, that brought joy to his life.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb, 1, 2017 at the Barryton Church of God with the family greeting friends beginning at 10 a.m.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the Barryton Church of God, 20244 30th Ave.

Memorial donations in Mike's name can be made to the Church of God in Barryton, where he sat on the church board for a number of years. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Share a memory or leave a condolence online at www.daggettgilbertfuneralhome.com
