Harold Leigeb Obituary

Harold "Hal" Leigeb
Harold "Hal" Leigeb of Midland, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Thursday August 18, 2022, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Hal was born in Midland, Michigan on April 23, 1937. He was the youngest of 12 children, born to Michael and Mary (Winter) Leigeb. Hal met his High School sweetheart, Vicki Goodshaw, during their junior year at Midland High School. Vicki was a cheerleader and Hal was the football star; a 2 time All State football player, and in 1955 was the first Chemic to be voted to the National High School All-American Football Team. Hal and Vicki were married on August 23, 1958. Hal attended Michigan State University on a Football scholarship, where he was a part of the 1957 MSU National Championship team. He graduated from MSU in 1961 with a degree in Marketing and Logistics.
Hal embarked on a long career with Dow Chemical in 1961 that spanned 32 years. He retired in 1993 but started a new career in Real Estate, which he thoroughly enjoyed for 25 years. After that, Hal's "job" consisted of working on cars, building a "pole barn" at his property (anyone who has seen his pole barn knows that is an understatement!) and working on his cottage up on Lake Charlevoix. This was a special place for him and Vicki and his boys, daughters in laws and grandkids, where many great memories were made.
Hal continued his athletic prowess after college on the Fastpitch Softball Diamond. Hal played on numerous teams and was an outstanding pitcher, which he continued to do through his early 60's. He pitched several no hitters and was a part of many championship teams. In 2015, he was inducted into the inaugural Midland High School Athletic Hall of Fame for his football accomplishments.
Hal is survived by his wife, Vicki; two sons, Dave (Linda) Leigeb of Midland, MI and Chris (Lisa) Leigeb of Lexington, KY; one sister Joanne Kuehne of Augusta, GA; six grandchildren, Allison, Hayley, Alexis, Alicia, Ryan and Kyle. In addition to his parents, Hal was preceded in death by brothers, Matt, Mike, Frank, Elmer, Tony, Paul, Joe, Ed and Ollie; and by one sister, Adeline Marcy.
Hal was a man of many talents. His athletic skills aside, he was a self-taught musician, learning piano, guitar and bass and played in bands with his relatives over the years. Hal was an expert craftsman, his work on display for his family to continue to enjoy at his house, cottage, and "Pole Barn". He was a "car guy" and we can't even begin to count how many vehicles he owned during his life. Jeeps were his favorite; he could not pass a Jeep for sale without stopping and checking it out. Hal was a proud Spartan throughout his life and enjoyed going to MSU football games and being honored on Spartan field with his teammates many times.
Hal will be remembered for his kind and humble spirit and his love of life. No one was a stranger to Hal. We are comforted to know he is now at peace and in the presence of all his loved ones that proceeded him in this life.
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

To Vicki and family. I worked with Hal back when I was a "temporary" employee early in my career at Dow. He was one of the most encouraging people I can remember from that time. My career there became full time for 32 years. We crossed paths again when he helped my grandmother sell her house. Such a kind man, and a fellow Spartan, too. I´m sad to think he´s gone from here, but happy to have known him and worked with him.
