Joseph James (Jim) Brozzo
Jim Brozzo passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Friday, August 12, 2022. Jim was born in Detroit and raised in Ludington, Michigan. After graduating from Michigan Tech with a degree in chemical engineering, Jim worked 40 years for the Dow Chemical Company with assignments in chemical development, research, finance and manufacturing.
After retirement in 1993, he worked part-time with the Department of Chemical Engineering at Michigan Technological University developing and gaining support for a 2-year Advanced Chemical Operators Course and arranging programs to build closer relationships with the department alumni. Mr. Brozzo was honored by Michigan Tech as a distinguished alumnus in 1998 by appointment to the Academy of Chemical Engineers.
Jim is a long time Scouting volunteer and has been president of councils in Connecticut and Michigan. He was an Area Vice-President and member of the Lake Huron Area Council Board. He holds both the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards. He is a member of the 1910 Society, the Heritage Society and the James E. West Society. He has held staff positions at 3 jamborees, has been a course director at Philmont Training Center and co-chaired a seminar in Irkutsk, Siberia attended by adult and youth Scouting volunteers from the United States and Russia.
Jim joined Rotary in 1979 in the Groton/Ledyard ((Connecticut) club. He has been on the boards of three clubs and the president of the Midland (Michigan) club. He has chaired the District Group Study Exchange. He was an Assistant Governor in District 6220 and District 6310. He is Past Governor of District 6310, a member of the Midland Rotary Club, the Paul Harris Society, a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Bequest Society. He received the Cliff Dochterman Award in recognition of his many contributions to the furtherance of the ideal of "Service Above Self" and exemplifying the principles of the "Four-Way Test" in the community of Scouting and Rotary.
Mr. Brozzo has been an officer and/or board member of numerous organizations including YMCA, various chambers of commerce, Navy League, the Connecticut 100 Club, the Norwich Savings Society, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, the Miscowaubik Club, the Keweenaw Industrial Council, United Way and the MTU Department of Chemical Engineering Advisory Board. He was the Dow representative on Sister City relationships with Honda City, Japan and Zigong, China.
Jim has been active in his church and has held many positions of leadership. He currently attends Sanford United Methodist Church where he was the chair of the Finance Committee. Jim is also chair of the Finance Committee of the District Board of Missions and Church Extension for his denomination.
Jim and his wife, Sally married 68 years, have four grown children, one who has predeceased them, six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. They enjoy skiing, boating, reading and travel.
Per Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Sanford United Methodist Church or Residential Hospice.

It's with great sadness to hear of Jim's passing. Throughout your lives together, you both have been inspiring role models for so many. Jim was a true leader, with a great passion for developing the best in everyone he met. His kindness and compassion was unmatched.
