Joshua Drake Obituary

Joshua L. Drake, 21 of Midland, died Wednesday evening, June 15, 2005 at the MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born Sept. 5, 1983 in Midland, son to Scott L. Drake and Barbara G. (Foor) Schaffer. Joshua was an '02 graduate of Midland High School, where he had many friends and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them, listening to music or just hangin' out. An avid U of M fan, he liked to compete in basketball like his favorite team the Detroit Pistons, and had boasted himself a "most-skilled Tetris player, second to none." Being close to his family, Joshua cherished time spent with his fiance: Valorie Basner, having looked forward to a future together. Joshua is survived by: mother and stepfather, Barbara G. and Scott Schaffer of Midland, and by his father and stepmother Scott L. and Charity Drake of Linwwod; four brothers, Erik, Jeffrey, Devon, and Derrick (who looked up to, admired and respected their older brother); grandparents, Neil and Earldine Foor, Barbara Filcek, all of Midland, Beverly Hadjikhani of Los Angeles, CA, Carl and Valerie Phillips of Bay City, and a great grandmother Ruth Emerson of Auburn. In addition he is survived by aunts and uncles, Beth (Harry) Smith of Midland, Belinda Foor of Chicago, IL, Michele (Joe) Spencer of Midland, Jeff (Wanda) Hadjikhani of Los Angeles, CA, Jared (Heidi) Phillips of Midland, Alison Phillips of Bay City, and several cousins. Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler St. Rev. Douglas Trebilcock of Aldersgate Methodist Church will officiate with interment to follow in Midland City Cemetery.
