Kelly Banner Obituary

Kelly Banner
With heavy hearts, we wish to announce the unexpected passing of Kelly Michele Banner, aged 65, in Sacramento, California on May 11, 2024, due to natural causes.
Kelly was born on November 14,1958 in Midland, Michigan to Adam Paul Banner and Lois Katherine Estep. After graduating in 1976 from Midland High School, she attended nursing school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She enjoyed a successful nursing career in several states. She was employed as a PACU nurse at the VA Hospital in Sacramento at the time of her death.
Kelly's life legacy was her career as a registered nurse for over 40 years. The devotion to patients under her care was indisputable. The combination of her experience, commitment to learning and deep compassion for all beings, was the secret to her extraordinary nursing care. A highlight was caring for VA patients, inspired by her father's WWII military service.
Grounded in her deep faith, she shared her life's mission with friends and family, by encouraging them to understand and advocate for their own health care needs. She was a model of self-advocacy as she navigated her own personal health issues.
Kelly had an adventurous spirit, living in cities along the West coast, collecting friends along the way. Every person and dog that met Kelly would enjoy a warm heart, a silly sense of humor, and a quick smile.
Kelly's legacy will live on through all the lives she touched. Kelly was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, daughter and friend. She will be missed by her family, coworkers and her many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughter Courtney Marie Erickson (Scott) of Noblesville, Indiana and her grandchildren Cecilia Erickson and Nils Erickson of Noblesville, Indiana. She is also survived by her three older brothers who loved her dearly – Kurt Feneley (Annette) of Warsaw, Indiana; Mike Banner (Sue) of The Villages, Florida; and Howie Banner (Rosemary) of Saginaw, Michigan; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her dog, Morgan.
The family requests that you consider sharing a memory on the personal page at Sierra View in Carmichael, CA www.sacramentofuneralandcremation.com or make a contribution to your local animal shelter, as a way to honor her legacy.
Celebration of life arrangements are pending.

Thinking of you today Kelly, but then hardly a day goes by that I don´t. I miss you sweet girl; no one in the world like you and both Melodie and I feel that loss and talk about how wonderful, fun, funny and so, so sweet you were. I know your soul was a joyful addition to heaven-we lost you way too soon for my heart, babe. Love you always and forever.

When I first started at the VA as a new RN, Kelly was a great mentor to me in the PACU. Not only did she dedicate 100% of herself to her bedside nursing, but to her teaching too. She´s smart, gentle and completely corky and funny! Kelly really loved to laugh, and RNs under pressure forget to laugh. Laughter is so important to nursing, and Kelly taught me that. She also co-chaired the UBC for RNs with me. Kelly, thank you. We will miss you!

Grief Poem
by Chaplin Robert Orr - Kindred Hospice

"Grief is the last act of love we give to our loved one.
Where there is deep grief there is great love. Grief is a great rite of
passage, it is a hero´s journey of courage, of sacred battles, sorrow,
love, joy and loss.
Through the darkness of grief we can see the light of love which
transcends death. And with the pain can come gratitude for the gift of
time we had, the love that was shared and the power to become a
better person because they loved us."

'til we meet again, our sweet friend - - Melodie and Deanna

dear courtney, scott, cecilia and nils. mike, sue, kurt, annette, howie and rosemary. words will not suffice my heartbreak in hearing of kelly's passing. as you know, our friendship goes all the way back to h.s. close to 50 years. life and the many miles between us did not keep us from communicating every few weeks. i will remember her with love, joy and the common sense she brought to every conversation!

Our grandmother showed me pictures and told me that Kelly and I were look-alike cousins. Based on the pictures, I thought she was way prettier. We met when we were older and formed an immediate Bond of friendship. It seemed that we had always known each other. We had a couple fun visits, including shopping together when she talked me into buying the cutest travel bag! Enjoyed our meals together, and very appreciated her encouragement. She Will be greatly missed. My prayers are with the family, and sure she is present with the Lord.
