A loving husband and father, Lael E. Nussbaum, age 77 of Midland, passed away Friday evening, June 16, 2023 at MyMichigan Medical Center.
Born November 30, 1945 in Dennison, Ohio, Lael was the son of the late Francis E. and Ellen A. (Lirgg) Nussbaum, Sr. Lael graduated Valedictorian of New Philadelphia High School in 1964. Throughout his life, Lael enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, coaching his children's youth sports, watching NASCAR, his daily diet coke runs to Speedway and since 2007, he has been an avid fan of the Great Lakes Loons. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

My husband Rod and Lael were college roommates all thru college, Lael said he was the first to know that Rod was going to marry me! That´s the kind of guy he was, a great friend during college and for the next 50 plus years. In the beginning, the two of them shared the trials of campus life at OU, and through the years, shared stories about their families growing up, career changes, and finally retirement and the ailments of aging. It was mostly by phone and letters, but they always knew the other was close in spirit and memory. They´re together again, retelling the old college stories and comparing notes about the grandkids! They even both have one named Olivia! I am so sad to lose another friend and I send my sincerest condolences to his family that meant so much to him.

Linda, so sorry for your loss. I knw longer receive the paper so I just learned that Lael had passed. I considered Lael one of my best friends- from Ohio U. Dow and our "for ever softball". I regret that we lost touch the last decade.

My sincere condolences to Linda, Jennifer, Scott, and family. I enjoyed being their neighbor for 28 years. Lael was always outside and eager to say hello. I sat near him at the Loons game and welcomed his smile and conversations. I am saddened by this sudden loss.

I am saddened to learn of Lael's passing. I fondly remember our years of playing racquetball at the Community Center. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May the love of family and friends bring you comfort today and in the days to come. In sympathy,
