Larry Bishop Obituary
Larry Bishop
Larry Ray Bishop, 83, of Midland, passed away October 20, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland. He was born October 24, 1941, in Gladwin, son of the late Dahrel and Josephine (Welhusen) Bishop. Larry grew up in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1960. His early dedication to his country was evident when he enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Larry continued his commitment to aviation and national service by working as an airplane mechanic for the Michigan Air National Guard. His expertise and dedication to his craft served him well until his retirement in 1995. Larry's work ethic and loyalty to his country were hallmarks of his character, leaving a legacy of service that inspired his two children to follow in his footsteps.
Larry's life was rich with interests. Alongside his beloved wife of 63 years, Karolyn, he enjoyed traveling, especially their winters spent in North Carolina. The couple cherished the scenic train rides they would sometimes take from North Carolina to Maryland, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Larry's love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for hunting, a tradition he began with his father as a child and continued throughout his life. He also enjoyed assembling model airplanes and rockets, especially when the time was spent doing it with his family.
A respected member of the American Legion Post 165, Larry's dedication to his fellow veterans was unwavering. He volunteered with the Midland Honor Guard for many years, honoring those who had served with the dignity and respect they deserved.
Most of all, Larry cherished the time he spent with his family and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchild. Watching his family grow and succeed brought him more joy than anyone could imagine. His legacy will live on through all the lives he has touched.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Karolyn Bishop of Midland; children, Terri (Clet) Bishop-Wright of North Carolina, and Larry (Wendy) Bishop, Jr. of Maryland; grandchildren, Jordan (Michelle) Bishop of New Mexico, Bethany (Blair) Nolan of North Carolina, Bryana Bishop of Maryland, and Justin Bishop of Maryland; and great-granddaughter, Teagan Nolan of North Carolina.
