Maretta Granelli Obituary

Maretta Granelli
With great sadness, we announce that Maretta Deane (Elliott) Granelli, 75, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Sherman Medical Center surrounded by family after a courageous battle with a chronic illness. The daughter of the late Donald M. and Madeline F. (Reinsmith) Elliott, Maretta was born in Midland, Michigan, on May 21, 1949, where she was raised, educated and a 1967 graduate of Midland High School. She lived most of her adult life in Lake Jackson, Texas, recently moving to Sherman to be near family who lovingly cared for her.
They say one word tells a thousand stories. Maretta's "words" were family, fairness, loyalty, defender, strong-willed, fearless, independent, caring and self-sufficient. Her life was defined by an unwavering love of family and a fierce dedication to those she held dear. She was a true matriarch, a guiding light, a source of wisdom and a wellspring of love.
In addition to her passion for family, Maretta held significant positions as an administrative assistant during a successful 32-year career with Dow Chemical. Upon retirement, she volunteered for many years at the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry. Maretta enjoyed gardening and maintaining her yard. Creative, resourceful and handy, she did many repairs and home improvements herself. Maretta was an excellent cook and created delicious, homemade meals, including her family's favorites of spaghetti sauce, Mississippi mud cake, Texas trash, pumpkin and banana nut breads and steaks on the grill.
Maretta is survived by her cherished sons, Nicholas (Megan) Granelli and Shane Granelli; beloved grandchildren, Bianca Granelli, Kayelin Granelli, Harper Granelli, Abigail Granelli and Kasen Granelli; much-loved sisters, Patricia (Phil) Morrison and Erin (Greg Stevens) Elliott; nieces, Shannon (Jeremy) Pnacek, Jessica (Matt) Beyer and Angela Mulka; nephews, Bret (Tere) Robison and Cameron (Brandy) Mulka; and many great nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Maretta was preceded in death by her parents, Madeline and Donald Elliott and her brother-in-law, Jeffrey Mulka.
Her memory will forever shine as a beacon of love and strength. May she rest in eternal peace.
Burial will take place per her wishes at an intimate family service at the Midland City Cemetery in Midland, Michigan. A celebration of life will also take place in Lake Jackson, Texas, in January.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry, 916 North Gulf Blvd., Freeport, TX 77541 or brazosportcares.org.
