Robert Hockaday Obituary

Robert Hockaday
Robert "Bob" Hockaday peacefully departed this world for heaven on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by his family at the age of 89.
Bob was born in Flint, Michigan, on July 19, 1936, with his twin brother Richard "Dick" Hockaday. Bob and Judy started seeing each other in the 6th grade and loved each other from then on. They married in Midland on June 29, 1957, and enjoyed 61 happy years together. They were always together, teaming their talents to make things special. Whether that be in their home remodeling, church decorating, or creating something special for family. Bob's hobbies included fine woodworking and automotive restoration. You could often find him in his workshop meticulously working until his project was perfect.
Anyone who knew Bob knew he had advice that was full of wisdom rooted in the Lord. He was steadfast in his faith, always leading by example and never missing a morning devotion. Bob was truly a devoted follower of the Lord, teaching Sunday school and serving in the Midland Free Methodist Church for years. His family will cherish memories of quiet moments that he turned into meaningful conversations and, of course, his playful comments that sparked a smile. His Christ-like character carried into his working life. As a supervisor for the city water department, he insisted on being in the field and hands-on with his crew, no matter the weather.
Bob is survived by his son Christopher (Dawn) Hockaday, daughter Marjory (Anthony)
Koppinger; his grandchildren, Leah (Dan) Lewis, Cal (Kelsey) Hockaday, Kristie (Rob) Mulder,
Adrienne (Ryan) Leto, Mitchell (Emma) Koppinger, Sydney Koppinger; his great-grandchildren, Elly Mulder, Miles Mulder, Beckett Leto; and his sister Marion Archer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and high school sweetheart, Jeanette "Judy" Hockaday, son Dennis Hockaday, father and mother Albert (Aileen) Hockaday, twin brother Richard (Barbra) Hockaday, and sister Kathryn Johnson.
A visitation will be held at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Thursday, November 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Midland Free Methodist Church on Friday, November 7, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., service at 11 a.m., and luncheon to follow. Pastor Gene LaForge will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bob's life.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to Midland Free Methodist Church.

Bob was a quiet, deep-water gentleman who loved life in the Lord to the full. His humble testimony under "well done faithful servant" can be used as a template for our own.
