Sarah MacLachlan Obituary

Sarah Elizabeth Martin MacLachlan
Sarah Elizabeth Martin MacLachlan of Midland began her eternal sleep surrounded by close family on January 30 following a long and complicated fight with lymphoma.
A long-time 8th grade English teacher at Bullock Creek Sarah's "family" extended larger than most. She had a generation of students she looked out for and followed as they grew into adults, began careers and started families locally, across the state and across the country. Sarah also derived great pride the runners under her charge coaching cross country and track at the middle school and high school. She had a special place in her heart for the theater types and was part of the middle school play production team for many years.
Outside of school, Sarah loved watching her twin daughters Kate and Claire in their many activities – figure skating, equestrian, cross country, track and more. A marching band drum major in high school, Sarah was particularly proud of Kate and Claire's musical achievements.
She greatly enjoyed traveling, whether to the beaches in Florida or the shores of Lake Superior in the western Upper Peninsula, where she liked to visit family and see her dad's old stomping grounds. She loved playing Mario Kart and other games with her daughters, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, reading and just spending quiet time at home. But as much as anything, she liked shopping with her mom, always on the lookout at a garage sale or thrift store for that unique item that she could sell on eBay for a profit.
Sarah was a Bullock Creek High School and Hope College graduate.
Sarah will be greatly missed by her husband (Scott), daughters (Kate and Claire), parents (Dale and Vickie (Shaver) Martin), brother (Aaron and Sarah), in-laws (Walt and Pam (Roberts) MacLachlan, Kathy and David Gillespie with nephew Brendan), and many aunts, uncles and cousins, along with countless friends, colleagues and former students.
A memorial service and reception is planned for February 19 from 12-3 p.m. at the Bullock Creek High School auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to Kate and Claire's college funds. More information can be found on Scott's or Sarah's Facebook pages or at the memorial.

Sarah was a friend at Hope College. We were housemates together senior year living in Kraker and we were Dorians together. She had such a gentle spirit and I am blessed to have known her. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am so sorry to hear of Sarah´s passing. I worked with her for several seasons with her sports apparel and drama apparel. I would meet her to hand off the orders after hours, always so pleasant and appreciative. She was one of my favorite customers. My sincere condolences to her girls and husband and all that loved her.

I still have a bullock creek jacket she gave me. It might not fit great anymore, but I think of her every time I wear it. She was an incredible teacher and coach and an even better friend. She will be missed,

Mrs. McLachlan was a wonderful teacher and one of the first people who really inspired my creative hobbies. Even as an adult, I have many memories I reflect on happily of how she made English fun. She will be missed.

Dear Dale, oh how we share the pain and sorrow of losing our dear sweet little girls. No parent should ever have to out live their child especially at such a young age. Please share my condolences with your wife and family for your feelings are in my heart. Don

Such an amazing teacher and coach. She was the first teacher I had when I moved to BC that really let me be me and broke me out of my shell.

She was such an amazing person to be around, she inspired me when I was a student to become a teacher and then again when I was her student teacher. I've been friends with her for so long and am going to miss her sweet and impactful words in our world. My thoughts go out to the family, loss and grief are such hard things to endure but I know from how Sarah spoke of you all that she was so proud and full of love, I hope you carry that within your hearts as you process and as time moves forward.
