Scott Zimmerman Obituary

Scott J. Zimmerman, 57, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 7, 2014, at MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland.

Scott is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cheryl, of Midland; sister, Beth Zimmerman of Bridgeview, Ill.; in-laws, Philip and Violet Gorski, Brenda Dalbec and Keith Gorski, all of Schofield, Wis. and Kevin Gorski of Felton, Del.; aunts and uncles, Joan Sodini, Alice and Norman Ziemke of Merrill, Wis. and Joan Shramek of Claremont, Calif.; as well as many cousins; and his golden retriever, Laddie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Vern Zimmerman, Naperville, Ill.; and his brother, Christopher.

Scott worked for Zimpro, Inc., Rothschild, Wis., from 1975-1982. After achieving his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, he joined The Dow Chemical Co. in Midland. During his 27-year career, Scott held numerous manufacturing and engineering roles in several facilities including Saran Resins, Methocel, Specialty Chemicals and Acrylamide Monimers. Since 2000, Scott has provided process safety support for a wide variety of plants throughout the world, most recently as the senior process safety manager for Dow Agro Sciences.

Scott and Cheryl were avid golfers and enjoyed vacations abroad to Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland where the highlight of their golfing careers was playing the Old Course at St. Andrews. Scott enjoyed woodworking, gardening and was an excellent cook.

A memorial liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church (corner of Monroe and Jefferson) on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, with Fr. Joe Griffin to celebrate.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, from 5-7 p.m., at Smith-Miner Funeral Home, and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering. Special thanks go to the ICU staff at MidMichigan Medical Center, especially Shelly and Ashley, for their kind and dedicated care during this difficult time. Scott was a wonderful brother. He was always there to provide guidance, advice, and support. I miss him deeply. We may not have seen each other often. I should have made more of an effort. I hope he is enjoying wonderful times with family and friends that have passed before him and after him. He will always be my big brother. I should have told him more often how much I appreciated him and loved him.

My prayers are with you and your family during this most difficult time. I know how someone's stay in the ICU can be such an emotional rollercoaster. I have taken care of many very ill patients over the years and it is never easy to say goodbye. I hope he had great care in the ICU. Please call if you would like to talk more.
