On May 21, 2021, Vera Marie McMullen, 91, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family.
Vera was a spirited and lively woman. She was born in Roscommon County on April 17, 1930. Her parents, Peter and Myrtle Parker (Blaisdell), inspired her love for plants, our country, our constitutional rights, and life's sacred mysteries. She was the youngest of their five children, and when she was two her family moved to Newberry, MI. She attended Newberry Area Schools and met her sweetheart John upon his return from World War II. John and Vera were married in September of 1947. Together they built a home and started a family. They had 7 children and moved to the Midland area after their second child was born. Vera was an active member of the John Birch Society, a big supporter of the right to life, and a true patriot to her country.
Her family meant the world to her. The care that she showered upon them expressed how deeply her love ran. Family get-togethers were aplenty, usually gathering in her own backyard where she lovingly planted beautiful flower gardens and kept adding and sharing plants throughout the years. She created a blissful yard that radiated creativity, happiness, and comfort. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her seven children; Ronald (Yvette) McMullen of Tampa, FL., Donald (Bonnie) McMullen of Midland, Keith McMullen of Midland, Rebecca (Steve) Roberson of Sanford, Roberta Meehan of Birmingham, AL., Kevin (Cindy) McMullen of Las Vegas, NV., and Mira (Rodney) Bell of Eastport, MI.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Wauneta Thomas of Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, and three brothers; Warren, Harvey, and Stanley.
Cremation has taken place per her wishes. Interment will take place in August at The Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry and will be followed by jumping in the waves of Lake Michigan on US-2 as Vera always loved to do.
