William H. "Bill" Ordiway Sr.

William "Bill" H. Ordiway Sr., 81, of Alger, passed peacefully May 27, 2013, after a short illness, surrounded by his family. He will be dearly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born March 24, 1932, in Durand, the son of A. D. and Coral L. (Amidon) Ordiway.

On July 28, 1951, he married his sweetheart, Elizabeth "Liz" Soper. Bill served 20 years in the U.S. Army. Enlisting as a private, he was promoted to Master Sgt. by 1959 and honorably discharged in 1969 as a Chief Warrant Officer. He then worked at Michigan Bell, retiring in 1989 after 20 years.

Surviving is his wife, Liz; children, Linda (Morey) Nunn, Rod Ordiway (significant other Gloria Fader), William (Marvielyn) Ordiway Jr.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Jim (Jean) Ordiway, Frank (Pauline) Ordiway, Ruth (Jerry) Johnston, Dean (CeCe) Ordiway and Carl (Barb) Ordiway; brother-in-law, Ray Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Johnson.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler Street, with burial in Midland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m., and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Full military honors will be under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the Midland Area Veterans.
