Owatonna - David S. Wencl, age 60, of Owatonna, MN, died peacefully on December 10, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community. David was on born on December 18, 1963, in Owatonna, to Sylvester and Marlys (Srsen) Wencl. He attended school in Owatonna, graduating from Owatonna High School in 1982. He grew up on the family farm and was highly involved in FFA. He worked at Jack and Jill's meat shop throughout high school. After high school, he continued working on the family farm with his dad and siblings. He worked at International Steele Erectors, Inc., where he held a high leadership role in building and constructing grain bins, travelling for 20 years. Toward the end of his life, Dave enjoyed being out on the family farm, going "up north", and spending time with family and friends.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to go "up north" to the cabin in Palisade, MN, to hunt and fish. He found joy in relaxing by a fire and grilling, making food for his family and friends. Dave's love and passion for music stemmed from his dad Sylvester playing the accordion. Over the years, he grew to love stock cars and enjoyed competing in races with close friends. In his downtime, he never missed a Sunday Viking's game or his favorite Western shows. Dave was always there as a helping hand for anyone who needed it. He had a kind and generous spirit, ready to assist and support those around him. His willingness to help others made a positive impact on many lives.
David is survived by his children Nicole Strand, Brandon Wencl, and Samantha Wencl; 13 grandchildren; significant other, Sherri Albert; his mother, Marlys (Srsen) Wencl; sister Charlotte Hansen (Mark Schmidt); and brothers Kenneth Wencl and Gary Wencl. He is also survived by two aunts, two uncles, nephews, and a niece.
David was preceded in death by his father Sylvester Wencl; grandparents Joe and Marie Wencl, and Frank and Mabel Srsen.
Services to honor Dave's life will be held at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Road, Owatonna) on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Friends may greet the family from 9:00 - 11:00 AM, prior to the service. Interment will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery at Litomysl.
