Janet Nissen Obituary

Shakopee - Janet Marie Nissen, aged 91, passed away on November 8, 2025, in Shakopee, MN. Born on January 13, 1934, in Owatonna, MN. Janet was known for her vibrant spirit and her exceptional skills as a party planner, cook, and reader. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1951. She married Richard Nissen on August 10, 1958. Her life was marked by a profound commitment to her community and professional circles, notably through her longtime involvement with JC Press and Gopher athletics, and her active participation in the Professional Businesswomen Society, where she also served as president.

Janet leaves behind a loving family: her husband, Richard; son, Tim (Karen); daughter, Tamara; and grandchildren, Anthony, Kelsi, Wyatte, and Miquela. She was a cherished aunt to nephews Spencer, Andrew, and James. Her passing was preceded by her parents, Lola and Orville Pobanz, and her brother, Don Pobanz.

A private service will be held for Janet at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, honoring her life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Special Olympics, a cause close to Janet's heart, reflecting her lifelong dedication to community support and enrichment.
