Nancy Curley Obituary

It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy W. Curley, who left this world peacefully on September 14, 2025 at the age of 89. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Born in San Francisco on February 28, 1936, Nancy spent her early years surrounded by her mother and extended family, often saddened by the loss of her father in World War 2. Nancy attended University of California, Berkeley where she majored in History with a minor in French, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduating, Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Charles H. Curley, and was a loving wife until his passing in 2005.

Nancy's career was defined by her dedication and passion for San Francisco, forming her own tour company and sharing with tourists the history and sites of the city she loved.

In her free time, Nancy volunteered in her hometown of Larkspur for The Larkspur Heritage Committee. Larkspur was special to Nancy, for in 1971, "...Joan Lundstrom, chair of the Larkspur Town Meeting that sparked many changes, asked Nancy Curley to get involved in what was initially called a "beautification" committee. Curley, and co-chair Helen Heitkamp, soon were looking up library records, tracking down old photos, and interviewing long-time residents. Before long, with Curley taking the lead, Larkspur had an official Heritage Preservation Board and an ordinance to match, the downtown district had been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and an ambitious publishing program had been launched." Nancy also volunteered with Guide Dogs for the Blind Inc. in San Rafael, CA, helping in all things dogs including housing and caring for breeders in her own home, much to the delight of her two sons, Craig and Kent.

Nancy is survived by her children: Craig and Kent; her grandchildren: Jesse, Alastair, Callahan and Bronwyn; and her great grandchildren: Charlotte, Zoey and Calum.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nancy's honor to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. of San Rafael, California - a cause that was close to her heart.

Nancy's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Seeing Nancy´s smiling face makes me smile having known her and all she accomplished. To me her legacy to Larkspur, through countless hours of work, is putting Downtown Larkspur on the National Register of Historic Places and also as one of the writers of our history books. Dedicated and caring. Rest in peace.

Mrs. Curley was very special and this memory is someone embarrassing to share but it gives insight to who she was for me:
Kent and I were youngsters and we were playing in front of their house in the canyon in Larkspur. I guess I was playing too hard that day because I had a sudden urge to go and subsequent incontinence problem and went running for the door. By the time I got to their bathroom it was too late and I had an issue with #2
Mrs Curley very calmly came to the bathroom door and asked if I was okay and I was kind of freaking out cuz I was too old for this to be happening...
I told her about my dilemma and she very calmly got me what I needed to get cleaned up and then allowed me to borrow a pair of underpants and pants so I could get home.
What could have and should have been a very embarrassing situation was made okay with her calm demeanor and patience and I will forever remember that situation and be grateful to Mrs Curley!
Furthermore she obviously raised her children right because they didn't even tease me that much. Lol

Much love and condolences to Craig and Kent and entire family!

This makes me so sad! Nancy was a wonderful woman, only one last Curley alive... being my mom at 98. Or should I say from that generation. They saw so much which formed all of the Curley´s into great Americans! My heart goes out to the Nancy and Charlie family. Cherish your memories. It´s all we have!
