OWENSBORO - John F. "Frankie" Jones Jr., 83, of Owensboro, passed away March 10, 2026. He was born on April 1, 1942, to the late John Franklin Jones, Sr. and Mary Ernestine "Elder" Jones.
Frankie served his country honorably in the United States Army. He later worked as a line supervisor for BellSouth and was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. A faithful member of St. Stephen Cathedral, he was also deeply involved in the Knights of Columbus Council 817, serving as grand knight in 1999, and was a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly 2074. Frankie enjoyed staying active in the community as a member of the Owensboro Antique and Classic Car Club and the Model A Club. In his spare time, he found great joy in antique refinishing, restoring classic cars, vegetable gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was also a devoted fan of the University of Kentucky basketball and rarely missed a game. Frankie was an active member and former officer of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Along with his parents, Frankie is preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Jones Krakowski, and his brother, Tilden Jones.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Theresa Jones; his son, John Matthew "Matt" (Tamara) Jones; his grandchildren, Loren Jones and Daniel (fiancé, Katie Keller) Krakowski; his siblings, Doris (and the late Harvey) Ferguson, Susan Jones, and Genny (Wayne) Stevens.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday, March 16, at St. Stephen Cathedral, with John Thomas and Pat Bittel co-celebrating. Visitation will take place on 3-7 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, at the funeral home. Burial to follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations made payable to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Kentucky at 3419 Wathen's Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
