METROPOLIS, Il. - Margaret Ellen "Peggy" Wright, 76, of Metropolis, formerly of Cairo, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025 at Mercy Health - Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
She was born on May 24, 1949, in Cairo, Illinois, to Charles Herbert and Mildred B. (Clark) Roberts.
Peggy was a graduate of the Cairo High School class of 1967. She attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale for over two years. Peggy worked for Beussink, Hey, and Roe as a bookkeeper for over 20 years. She loved her pets, crafting, and camping. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Metropolis.
Survivors include her sons, John (Heather) Fowler, Chuck (Chrissy) Fowler, and Ryan (Kim) Fairchild; seven grandchildren, Jordan Fowler, Katie Feagin, Morgan Fowler, Sydney Watkins, Ally Fairchild, Dylan Fairchild, and Alexa Hagan; five great-grandchildren, Gabby Fowler, McKinley Feagin, Janson Feagin, Remi Watkins, and Raleigh Watkins; one sister, Carla (Craig) Shemwell; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Along with her parents and husbands, Archie Fairchild and James Wright, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Ann Roberts (infant) and Florence Goatley.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. with Father Christopher Mujule officiating at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cairo, Illinois.
Interment will follow the Mass at Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois.
The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to St. Rose of Lima Parish in Metropolis.
