BARDWELL - Michael Anthony Elder, 76, of Bardwell, passed away at 9:48 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his residence.
A man of faith, Michael was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church who loved his family & Church family. He was retired from General Tire after 37 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Michael shared his love and knowledge of training bird dogs, shooting, guns, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding with many of his friends & family. A very supportive grandfather, Michael always enjoyed attending his grandchildren's games and events they participated in.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Hayden Elder of Bardwell; daughter, Lauri (Mark) Brooking of Blandville; son, Kevin (Catherine) Elder of Nashville, Tennesee; son, Rodney (Christy) Elder of Fancy Farm; five sisters, Ruth Ann (Wayne) Higdon of Fancy Farm, Betty Campbell of Arizona, Margaret Cole of Columbus, Donna (Dennis) Pilcher of Iowa, and Debra (Donnie) Caldwell of Melber, Ky.; four brothers, Lyndal (Carolyn) Elder of California, Phillip (Evie) Elder of Fancy Farm, Mark Elder of Fancy Farm, and Larry (Sherry) Elder of Fancy Farm; 10 grandchildren, Connor Brooking, Trevor Elder, Michaela Elder, Blake Elder, Rawlin Brooking, Elizabeth Roberts, Michael O'Rear Jr., Jacob O'Rear, Anna Grace O'Rear, and Mary Catherine O'Rear; and four great-grandchildren, Mason O'Rear, Mikey O'Rear, Malory O'Rear, and Jonah Roberts.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Aline Helm Elder; brother, Gary Elder, whom Michael was a caregiver for 25 years; brother, Rudy Elder; and two sisters, Helen Sullivan and Dot Kilcoyne.
Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the St. Charles Catholic Church with Chrispin Oneko officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the St. Charles Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Elder, Trevor Elder, Blake Elder, Kevin Elder, Mark Brooking, Rawlin Brooking, and Connor Brooking.
The Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield is in charge of arrangements.
