PAGELAND, S.C. - Ruth Carol Estridge Helms Graves, 86, of Pageland, S.C., passed away on Nov. 23, 2025, in Monroe, N.C.
Ruth was born on July 24, 1939, in Union County, N.C., to the late James Bronsel Estridge and Mamie Elizabeth Yow. Ruth grew up alongside her siblings, Charles Estridge, Darrell Estridge, Elizabeth Yarborough, and Doris Mills, whom preceded her in death. Her early years were filled with the warmth of close-knit family ties and the values that would guide her throughout her life. Ruth's radiant personality and zest for life were evident to all who knew her.
In her youth, Ruth's heart was captured by Wayne O'Neal Helms, with whom she traveled extensively, sharing a love that would set the stage for her lifelong passion for exploration.
After Wayne's passing, Ruth found love again and married Henry Sims Graves, continuing her journey with her family that would expand to include cherished children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her loving family: daughter Cathy Bradford of Pageland, S.C.; son Mike Graves and his wife Rhonda; son Jeff Graves and his wife Heidi; grandchildren Crystal Nicholson, Michael Bradford, David Graves and his wife Emily, Ryan Graves and his fiancée Megan, Bennett Graves and his fiancée Hannah, Anna Catherine Graves Butler and her husband Chris, and Mary Claire Graves; great-grandchildren Hannah Nicholson, Natalyn Funderburk and her husband Andrew, Patrick Nicholson, and Rhett Nicholson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles who will miss her dearly.
A woman of many interests, Ruth's life was a celebration of the things she loved. She found joy in shopping. Her love for travel took her to the mountains, beaches, and the Outer Banks, and even on an unforgettable journey out West. Ruth's faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of her church community. She cherished the simple pleasure of going out to eat with friends and family. Ruth was also an avid reader, she loved to cook, and found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories that they will treasure forever.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025 at High Point Baptist Church Family Life Center. There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025 at 2 p.m. at High Point Baptist Church in Pageland, S.C., with Pastor Bobby Pegram officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Marshville, N.C.
